Chapter 66
Nathan’s POV
Lightning flashed through the high windows of Emerald Castle’s grand dining hall, momentarily illuminating the ornate room in stark white light before plunging it back into the soft glow of candlelight,
The storm outside had been gathering strength for hours, matching the building tension in my chest.
I sat at the head of the long table, barely a ware of the murmurs and clinking glasses around me.
Madison sat beside me, her body occasionally brushing against mine deliberate touches that only irritated my already frayed
nerves.
“This salmon is absolutely perfect,” Madison purred, cutting another delicate piece.

She leaned closer, her smile directed at me but her eyes scanning the noble she–wolves at the table, reveling in their jealous glances.
My mind was elsewhere. I’d barely touched the first course, let alone the third that now sat cooling before me.
The wolf inside me paced restlessly, demanding I go check on Rachel Why hadn’t she told me about the ultrasound appointment change?
“Are you alright, Alpha?” Madison’s voice cut through my thoughts.
“I’m fine,” I replied coldly, my eyes drifting toward the entrance doors for what must have been the hundredth time.
My heart was growing increasingly agitated, desperate to break free from this political charade and find Rachel, to ensure she and my heir were safe.
But this engagement dinner was crucial for the alliance…
Servants cleared plates as the orchestra began a new melody. The guests‘ laughter mingled with distant thunder, grating against my
nerves.
A movement in the corner caught my attention. Victoria and Gina were huddled together, whispering intently.
“…Rachel…today’s check–up. We can’t just leave her like this, Gina, Victoria’s voice reached my sensitive hearing.
“Of course we can. Watch me,” Gina replied with that rebellious look knew too well.
Before I could react, Gina stood abruptly, silencing the room as all eyes turned to her.
“Dear brother,” she announced loudly, “this dinner is truly magnificent, but I’m feeling the effects of the wine and wish to retire early. I wouldn’t want to embarrass you on your most important night.”
Raymond smiled at Gina’s words. Normally, I would have harshly reprimanded Gina for such inappropriate behavior, but my wolt’s instincts urged me to let them check on
Rachel.
“Victoria, watch her get back to her room,” I ordered.
“Yes, Alpha,” Victoria replied respectfully.
As they left, I heard Gina’s smug whisper, “Told you it would work.”

Madison noticed their departure, her eyes narrowing. “Where are the going?”
To the restroom,” I answered flatly, my eyes still locked on the doorway.
Madison raised a perfectly shaped eyebrow, clearly skeptical, but I couldn’t have cared less.
The conversation resumed after a few minutes. Another lightning bolt cut across the sky, followed by a thunderclap that shook the castle walls, startling several guests.
Victoria burst back into the dining hall with Mia, Rachels guard, both faces etched with panic. My heart skipped a beat.
What happened?
Victoria rushed to my side, bending to whisper urgently in my ear, she’s gone!”
For a moment, I couldnt process her words. My eyes immediately turned golden as the message sank in.
The terror on Victoria’s face finally made it clear
Rachel had disappeared.
I shoved my chair back forcefully, rising to my feet as my pine scent stormed through the room like a winter gale.
charged toward Rachel’s Moon Goddess Suite, completely indifferent to what the guests or Raymond might think.
I raced through the castle corridors, colliding with corners and servants without a second thought. My wolf was raging inside, demanding I find Rachel and our child immediately.
Deep down, I hoped Victoria was somehow mistaken. I imagined Rachel still waiting in our suite, her hand gently resting on her stomach, protecting my Alpha heir.
I crashed through the door of the Moon Goddess Suite, roaring, “WHERE IS SHE?!” My eyes blazed golden, scanning the empty room frantically.
Tyler and Victoria rushed in behind me. The suite was deserted except for Gina, who stood in the center, holding two pieces of paper in her trembling hands.
