It felt like the second Kasmine stepped out of the house, my world began to fall into chaos.
Ten fucking minutes. That’s all it took.
My phone lit up like a rabid Christmas tree – texts, emails, missed calls. It was almost like they had piled up, waiting for me to be alone and vulnerable, just to test my promise of self–control to Kasmine.
Alfred was found dead in his house this morning, and his wife told the authorities I’d been there. She said she heard my voice before the gun went off.
Said she saw me leaving by the time she ran out of the kitchen.
Fuck.
I gritted my teeth, pacing around. My body couldn’t stay still even if tried. The only thing louder than the pounding of my heart was the snarl rising in my chest.
Why now? I wanted to stop getting my hands dirty. But someone was playing a dangerous game.
The Black Ledger had been tampered with again. Forty percent of the firewall layers were cracked through like they were nothing more than damp paper.
That level of hacking? It wasn’t some amateur with a grudge. This was professional.
I must say, whoever this person was, was smart as fuck. They covered their damn tracks like a ghost.
But the infuriating part? Every single camera feed during the breach was wiped.
Someone inside knew exactly where to look, what to touch, and what to erase.
As if that wasn’t enough, Alpha Wes was threatening to bring down hellfire and brimstone. Mr. Ray just called to inform me.

He wants to take back all he had done for me since I decided to treat his daughter like trash. But he wouldn’t. He couldn’t.

“Norlan.” I didn’t wait for his usual pleasantries, “We have a corpse, a frame job, the ghost hacker, and two Alphas sniffing for war. Get to my house. Now.”

There was silence from both of them, almost as if they knew I was listening and wanted me to digest every word he just said.
But I walked on, pretending not to care. But in reality, I cared. And no matter what, I couldn’t let anyone be this unfair to Kester. I had to inform him so we’d come up with the best way to handle this.
Mum looked pale. She looked too sad, almost like a shadow of herself. She couldn’t even pretend to smile. And it hurt me.
“How are you doing?” She asked after we silently sat and watched each other for a while.
