His scent grew stronger, overwhelming my senses as his tongue explored my mouth. I didn’t resist him. How could I? My wolf craved the connection with our Alpha, and… so did 1.
“Nathan…” I gasped when we broke apart for air. “We can’t…”
“Why can’t we?” he growled, his voice deepening with wolfish desire.
“Your sister and Victoria are just on the other side of that door…” I reminded him, though my body betrayed my words, pressing
closer to his warmth.
Oh–Nathan, oh, Moon Goddess…” I moaned as his lips moved to my neck, gently nipping at my skin. His hands explored my body, sending waves of pleasure through me. My wolf howled with approval, submitting completely to our Alpha.
When he eventually pulled back, I looked at him in confusion. “You don’t want to…?” I asked, feeling slightly disappointed that he wasn’t taking this further.
“Emma says you can’t fully mate right now… for the baby’s safety,” he explained, his eyes still golden, showing how close his wolf was to the surface.
I nodded, understanding but still yearning for more of his touch. “Will you come back tonight?” I asked, hoping he would say yes. My wolf wanted to spend the night with our Alpha.
My question was met with a sigh. “I have meetings. I’m not sure when they’ll end. The border has been attacked again.”
“Thank you,” I said softly, looking up into his eyes.
“For what?” he asked, confusion evident in his expression.
“For actually talking to me. Like a person, not just a breeder.”
The longer I spent with him, the less I understood the Alpha of Ironjaw. Before, he had been so distant and cold, viewing me solely as a breeder, but now he acted almost as if… he cared.
When we returned to the living room, we discovered a large silver tray had been placed on the table, the tantalizing aroma of meat wafting from beneath its cover.
“Well, you two both smell like each other,” Gina commented with a smirk. “Goddess, it’s so obvious.”
Victoria shot Gina a warning look. “Just because you’re his sister doesn’t mean you can talk like that. Alpha’s private matters aren’t for us to discuss.”
“I’m just happy my brother finally found his mate,” Gina said warmly After what happened with Eather, I thought he’d never accept a mate bond.”
Nathan’s entire demeanor stiffened instantly at Gina’s mention of “mte,” his pine scent turning cold and sharp.
Thave to go,” he said, his voice reverting to that cold Alpha tone. Without another word, he strode from the room, his eyes returned to their steely gray.
Why did Nathan turn cold when this was mentioned? He really hates me, doesn’t he? Well, it makes sense. I shouldn’t have any extravagant hopes..
“Well, what was that about? Gina asked, confused. “Did I say something wrong?”

“I don’t know, but he looked upset, Victoria replied. “Do you think he’s okay?”
“I’m sure he’s fine,” I said, trying not to overthink Nathan’s behavior. The word “mate” seemed to have triggered something deep within him.
I lifted the cover from the tray, and an enticing aroma of meat hit me full force. “What is this-”
“Bacon!” Victoria and Gina exclaimed in unison.
My wolf howling with satisfaction. When Nathan said he’d taken care of it, he hadn’t been joking. The tray contained not just bacon but all the foods I’d been craving.
Maybe… maybe there was more hope for the future than I’d thought. My wolf whimpered contentedly.
He gave me bacon. Does that mean he doesn’t really hate me?
-I want him, all of him forever. My inner wolf howled, desperately longing to form a complete bond with our Alpha.
After having enough to eat and drink, I went back to my room to rest and then fell asleep quickly.
“Don’t leave me,” I pleaded with Nathan in my dream, my wolf whimpering with fear of losing our Alpha.
Nathan’s gray eyes turned completely gold as he gazed down at me, his powerful body hovering above mine. “You’ll always be mine, Rachel–and I’ll always be yours. The Moon Goddess has woven our fates together.”
His declaration made my heart race, love for him washing over me like a tidal wave. “My wolf has already claimed you,” I whispered, pulling him closer.
“And mine has claimed you,” he growled, his scent turning intoxicatingly rich. “You’re not just a breeder to me, Rachel. You’re my
mate.”
Just as dream–Nathan’s lips descended toward mine, his image began to blur and fade.
“Nathan? Where’s your scent?” I called out, reaching for him as he drifted away.
