Chapter 16
Joshua stood at the door, his expression impassive. “I’ve been on a business trip. Julie can’t handle him alone. Look after him for two days.”
I felt unwell, my response cold.“Okay. When you return, bring the divorce papers.”
I held Kevin and walked into the office, leaving him standing there. He watched me go,
then left.

In the lounge, I gently placed Kevin on the bed, letting out a long sigh. “Take off your coat and go to sleep.”
He was unusually compliant, removing his jacket and handing it to me.“Mom, please hang it up. Thank you.”
He was always so sweet. I smiled, hanging up his coat. We lay down together.
He held my arm.“Mom, are you mad I went to see that woman?”
I paused, then sighed, pulling him close. “She gave birth to you. It’s hard to accept, but without her, there’d be no you. Don’t call her ‘that woman.‘
His unease eased. He’d worried I was angry he’d chosen Julianna and didn’t want him anymore.
He closed his eyes contentedly. “Mom, I’ll always love you. No matter who gave birth to me, you’re my favorite
Mom!”
My heart softened. I touched his face.“I’ll always be here for you.”
“Mom, promise!” He yawned.“Lying makes your nose grow long!”
His words amused me, calming my irritation. I kissed his forehead gently. “I won’t lie. Goodnight.”
