Chapter 19
That day, when Mr. Cooper Senior called, asking her to meet Finn once, she had actually made two requests-
One was to bring Ethan along.
The other was for Mr. Cooper Senior to control Finn and stop him from pursuing her.
Mr. Cooper Senior’s cloudy eyes lowered, showing a trace of regret.
Having lived most of his life, he was usually an excellent judge of character,
If Harper had married Finn, with Finn secure in his position as heir, the Cooper Group would certainly have risen to new heights.
Unfortunately, Finn wasn’t destined for such fortune.
Mr. Cooper Senior took out a red envelope from his bag and handed it to Harper:
“Harper, congratulations on your marriage. This is a small token from me.”
Harper looked at the red envelope, her eyes reddening.
During her eight–year relationship with Finn, apart from Rebecca, Mr. Cooper Senior was one of the few Cooper family elders who genuinely approved of her.
Harper accepted the envelope, saying neither humbly nor arrogantly:
“Thank you, Mr. Cooper. I’m sorry, but I have matters to attend to and must leave now.”
Mr. Cooper Senior nodded, finally unable to hold back a sigh.
Outside the private room, Harper had only walked a few steps when Finn emerged.
He stared at her retreating figure and called loudly:
“Harper, can we have one last embrace?”
Harper frowned, about to coldly refuse.
Suddenly, a figure darted out in the corridor.
Seeing Harper, Serena’s face contorted. She strode forward, suddenly splashing concentrated sulfuric acid toward Harper’s face.
Ethan frowned severely, trying to rush over and shield Harper, but he had just been settling the bill with a waiter and was too far away.
Seeing this, Finn took a huge step forward, using his body to shield Harper.

The concentrated acid instantly splashed onto Finn’s back and head, rapidly corroding his skin.
The bone–chilling pain made even the typically stoic Finn scream in agony.
Harper was stunned for a moment before walking up to Serena and slapping her face hard:
“Serena Smith! Have you lost your mind? You actually tried to attack someone with sulfuric acid!”
If Finn hadn’t shielded her, she would be the one disfigured now!
Serena covered her swollen face.
She looked at the injured Finn with resentment, her voice trembling slightly:
“Why… why did you shield her? I only wanted to splash her, not you…”
Harper frowned, raising her hand to slap Serena hard again.
“Wait and see. The Cooper family won’t let you get away with this!”
“And neither will I!”
The ambulance arrived quickly. Before Finn was loaded in, he looked at Harper with reddened eyes, his voice weak:
“Harper, after this, can you forgive me?”
As Serena watched the bleeding Finn, she was about to speak when Finn suddenly lost consciousness.
Three days later, Harper received news that Finn’s condition was serious.
To protect Harper, Finn’s head had been covered in concentrated sulfuric acid.
He developed a severe infection after being sent to the hospital and was now in the ICU fighting for his life.
As Harper had predicted, Mr. Cooper Senior didn’t spare Serena.
He hired top lawyers to prosecute her.
Harper also made a special trip back to Riverside-
She asked the housekeeper to testify about Serena deliberately dropping the vase on her head, bringing Serena to court.
Serena was eventually sentenced to thirty years in prison.
After such events, Harper couldn’t focus on wedding preparations. Ethan understood and announced the wedding’s
postponement.
A few days later, Harper received a call from Mr. Cooper Senior.
On the other end, the old man’s voice trembled:

“Miss Mitchell, please come see Finn one last time. He… he’s not going to make it…”
Harper’s mind went blank for a few seconds as she looked helplessly at Ethan.
Ethan pulled her into his arms, comforting her:
“Go see him. Whatever he did before, he saved your life that day. Seeing him now will prevent future regrets.”
On the way, Harper stared out the window, her mind in turmoil.
She no longer loved Finn and had even hated him at one point.
Yet he had saved her life…
In the private hospital room, Harper looked at Finn lying in bed, resembling a withered tree, his face deathly pale.
Even his breathing was extremely weak.
Seeing Harper, Finn suddenly smiled–his first smile in days.
He beckoned Harper over, patting her hand, his voice extremely feeble:
“Harper, don’t cry.”
“I’m sorry for my past mistakes. I’m sincerely apologizing.”
“Don’t feel guilty about my passing. If possible, could you hug me one last time?”
Harper bent down, gently embracing Finn, her voice husky:
“Don’t die. Mr. Cooper still needs you…”
Finn chuckled softly, looking at Ethan outside the window, then gazing longingly at Harper:
“Congratulations on your marriage, my Harper. I truly hope you’ll always be happy.”
Harper left the room in tears.
Ethan stood in the hallway, embracing the trembling Harper:
“Don’t blame yourself. This isn’t your fault.”
That night, the Cooper family issued an obituary announcing Finn’s death.
Three days later was Finn’s funeral.
Harper and Ethan attended together.
Among the crowd, the couple dressed in black.
Harper looked at Finn’s coffin, red–eyed:
