Chapter 10
“Why are you here? Have you eaten?” she asked.
Ethan coldly pushed her away before she could touch him.‘
“Where’s Sophia? I know she’s hiding here. Tell her to come out!”
Seeing his mother’s wide–eyed, speechless expression, he grew impatient and brushed past her, heading straight for his old bedroom upstairs.
As he walked, he shouted Sophia’s name repeatedly.
“Sophia! Sophia!”
He forcefully pushed open his bedroom door only to find it spotlessly clean, with no sign of habitation.
His mother followed him upstairs.
“Where is she? Where are you hiding her!” he demanded.
Seeing her son’s bloodshot eyes, his mother’s voice trembled slightly.
“Ethan, Sophia is… she’s dead.”
“What?!” Ethan’s eyes widened as his brain seemed to explode.
In the next moment, he laughed mockingly.
“Sophia paid people to harass Veronica, and now you’re telling me she’s dead? Mom, how much did she bribe you to say this? Where is she? Call her out to apologize to Veronica!”
“Enough! I don’t know who has brainwashed you, but Sophia’s plane crashed into the sea. She’s gone–everyone on board
died.”
Ethan stood frozen, as if struck by lightning.
The color drained from his face instantly.
“Impossible! I don’t believe it!”
His mother pulled up the news reports from that day to show him.
After seeing them, his entire body trembled uncontrollably.
“This is real. When I called you that day, I wanted to tell you about this, but you wouldn’t listen. You said something about Sophia complaining? Ethan, what happened between you and Sophia? Why was she leaving alone on a plane? Where was she going?”
Her words fell on Ethan’s ears, but he couldn’t answer any of them.

Because he didn’t know where Sophia was flying to either.
The news of Sophia’s death crashed down on Ethan like a massive boulder, leaving him disoriented.
After a long moment, he tensed his face. “You’re lying. Sophia won’t die. She can’t die!”
With that, he quickly turned to leave, but his mother called after him.
“Where are you going? Sophia’s family has already given up. It’s been several days–they won’t find anything now. The plane Sophia was on caught fire mid–air!”
Ethan clenched his fists tightly, a heaviness in his chest making it difficult to breathe. He gulped in air. “They haven’t looked, so how do they know they can’t find her? I don’t believe she’s dead!”
“As long as I’m alive, Sophia won’t die!”
He left resolutely, calling to book a flight while contacting Sophia’s mother overseas.
The phone rang for a long time before connecting. The woman on the other end sounded cold and impatient.
“What do you want?”
Ethan gritted his teeth. He knew Sophia’s mother had never liked him.
She hadn’t even attended their wedding, pretending to be stuck overseas.
Ethan kept his face stern, trying to control his anger. “Mom, Sophia’s in trouble. As her mother, aren’t you even going to ask about her? And why did you stop the search and rescue efforts?”
His accusatory words squeezed through clenched teeth.
As soon as he finished, a mocking laugh came through the phone.
“I entrusted my daughter to you, and you only call now after she’s in trouble? Ethan Fuller, what kind of act are you putting
on?”
The call disconnected.
Ethan felt a sharp pain in his chest as he experienced true despair for the first time in his life.
He floored the gas pedal, running countless red lights. His phone on the passenger seat kept vibrating, but he ignored it after glancing at the caller’s name, continuing his drive to the airport.
Meanwhile, after hanging up, Meredith adjusted the blanket for the person lying in bed.
“I’ve put the milk on the side. I know you’re already awake.”
Sophia didn’t respond, keeping her eyes closed.
“I warned you before. A selfish, dark character like Ethan Fuller can’t be saved by your love, no matter how hard you try, e enough-”

“He still doesn’t know, does he?”
Sophia covered her head with the blanket. Seeing her daughter’s reaction, Meredith sighed softly and quietly prepared to
leave.
Sophia suddenly spoke up.
“He’ll find out soon enough.”
