Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Seeing Ethan, Sophia suddenly felt weary. “Nothing important.”
Noticing her impatient response, Ethan felt his heart drop. He unconsciously stepped toward Sophia.
But before he could reach out to her, she dodged him.
His face darkened with displeasure. Just as he was about to speak, his phone rang urgently.
Frowning, he answered Jason’s call.
“Ethan, check the messages I sent you!”
Jason had sent many. Ethan randomly opened one, and his screen filled with videos of Veronica bursting into Sophia’s birthday celebration barefoot and throwing herself into his arms.
The comments below were vicious, all mocking and insulting Veronica.
“A home–wrecker showing up at the legitimate wife’s birthday party to play the victim–how low can society sink!”
“Ethan and Sophia were childhood sweethearts with such a good relationship, yet he still cheated and kept a mistress. Can men ever keep it in their pants?”
“This woman is such a manipulator! Someone should expose her!”
Ethan scrolled through more messages, seeing that practically all of Veronica’s personal history had been dug up. To him, these were all slanderous fabrications.
Angry and worried, he tried to call Veronica.
Before he could dial, his phone rang again.
He answered urgently, and Veronica’s broken, tragic voice came through the speaker.
“Ethan, I won’t fight with her for you anymore, okay? Please ask her to leave me alone. I’ve already suffered enough. Next life, let’s meet sooner, alright?”
Veronica hung up after speaking.
Sophia frowned at him. “What’s wrong?”
Just as the words left her mouth, Ethan suddenly lunged forward and gripped her throat tightly. His eyes blazed red as he threatened, “Sophia Reed, if anything happens to her, I won’t let you off!”
With that, Ethan threw her roughly onto the bed like a piece of cloth.
Sophia gasped for air, clenching her fists to stop her uncontrollable trembling.
He had nearly strangled her to death!

Chapter 8
She picked up her phone and called Jason.
Veronica had attempted suicide by slitting her wrists, but Ethan arrived in time.
Ethan stayed at the hospital watching over Veronica, his face tense and never relaxing for a moment.
After learning everything. Sophia called Ethan, but he hung up on her.
She wouldn’t accept Ethan’s baseless accusations. Such dirty tactics of destroying someone at any cost weren’t her style–she wasn’t that stupid.
But Ethan refused to believe her.
Near dawn, Ethan returned home with a chill about him.
He didn’t turn on the lights, but suddenly appeared at Sophia’s bedside, startling her.
Seeing her reaction, he smiled at her with contempt.
“Veronica is having constant nightmares in her hospital bed, while you, the mastermind, sleep so peacefully.”
“Sophia, I want you to record a video apologizing to Veronica, saying she’s innocent and that you jealously paid to have her
smeared!”
Sophia stared at him with wide eyes. “You don’t believe me!”
Ethan lowered his gaze, strangely unwilling to meet her eyes.
He clenched his fists. “This is what you owe her. If you haven’t posted it by nine tomorrow morning…”
Sophia’s heart died completely. Her blood ran cold, leaving her face pale and expressionless. “What do you want?”
Ethan gritted his teeth. “I told you, just apologize, and nothing will happen. But if you don’t post it, you’ll pay the price.”
He strode out of the room.
Sophia looked up helplessly at the moonlight outside the window.
The stupidest thing she’d ever done was decide to grow up alongside a boy.
Sophia didn’t post an apology video.
And Ethan truly made her pay the price.
As the entire nation watched her being cornered in an alley by thugs, her clothes torn off, forced to the ground as dirty hands groped her body…
Sophia shed her last tear for Ethan in this life.
Her phone dinged with an incoming audio file.
“Ethan, are you sure you want to release these videos? This will destroy Sophia!”

“Let her learn her lesson and curb that arrogant temper! I can’t always shelter her–she needs to grow up
Sophia sat on the floor, laughing bitterly at herself.
Ethan only knew how to punish her, completely forgetting who had caused those thugs to molest her in the first place…
She packed a “gift” for Ethan.
Then, fully disguised, she left the home that had imprisoned her for a lifetime.
“Ethan Fuller, goodbye forever!”
Ethan sat beside Veronica, somewhat distracted. Despite his harsh words, he wasn’t truly that cold–hearted.
He was waiting–waiting for Sophia to bow her head and beg him.
But he waited too long, from daylight until dark, without receiving a call from her.
A delivery company did call about a package, and when he asked who sent it, they mentioned the sender’s surname was Reed.
Ethan’s lips finally curled into a slight smile.
As he’d expected, Sophia still cared about him after all.
He had just managed to lull Veronica to sleep and was about to check what package had arrived when his phone suddenly
rang.
He frowned, looking at the name on the screen–his mother.
He answered impatiently.
In the next moment, his mother’s panicked voice came through.
“Ethan! Something’s happened to Sophia!”
