CHAPTER 62 – Kylie’s new reality
KYLIE’s POV
I woke up in the same room, still in Elijah’s clothes, but this time he was sitting in the armchair close to my bed, concer etched in the lines of his forehead.
“Hello stranger.” He said to me in a calm tone, but his eyes were anything but calm storm brewed in them.
“You look upset,” I told him, and he leaned closer.
“more like, I’m worried that once you’ve found the strength, you’re going to be running for the hills.”
“I think I’m strong enough, but I don’t really feel like running anywhere.” I said firmly, and thought for a moment, “Although, t
m going to need you to take a breather before you shift in front of me again. That was a whole lot for me to watch”
“got it. No more shifting in front of Kylie,” he said stoically.
“For now.” I rushed to add with a smile.
“for now.” he repeated, a crack in his stoicism, “but… do you believe me now.”
“I’m not sure I have much of a choice, now do I?” I asked, and shrugged, “It’s a whole lot to take in, but if you give me time, f m sure I can learn to handle it.”
“take all of the time you need,” he told me, and a brief silence ensued.
“I would like to know a couple of things though.”
“Let’s have it. Things like what?”
“While I was reading, and doing research, I did read a lot about werewolves, and how you all are slaves to the moon, especially a full moon. Is it true?”
“partly. A shifter, like me, can turn at will. However, the very first time is out of our control. However, subsequently, we learn to control our shifts. Well, some of us do.”
“you pack does?”
Thodded, “yes, my pack does.”
“and those who can’t?”
“They can’t shift at will, just on full moons. But that is a different kind. I haven’t met many of them. But a few. Just a few.”
“You say these guys who took me are called rogues. Do they have a reason for taking me? I mean, why me?”
“I can’t say
for sure why they chose you. But according to the leader, who may never get a chance to say anymore ever again, there is something special about your blood. I’m really not sure about that part. But that was what the bloke had said.”
“Is my blood special?” I asked, a bit incredulously and Elijah nodded, before taking one of my hands in his.
“I’m sorry, Kylie. I had believed that by keeping all of these things from you, I was keeping you safe. I didn’t realize that I was doing more harm than good. I’m so sorry.”
“I guess I understand how you could have thought that you were keeping me safe. I mean, look at the way I passed out only moments ago. But, I like knowing. I like being brought to the light.”
“I’ll do my best to keep you here. In the light. But most of all, I’ll do my best and do my all to protect you. Regardless of what you know, I’ll make sure to keep you safe. I promise.”
I nodded, and but I wasn’t very sure what to say to all of that. On one hand, I appreciated Elijah coming clean with me, but on the other hand, now that I knew the truth, now that I could see it for myself, I had to admit that it was a whole lot for me. Up until today, I had lived in speculation, and only gained all the information I had from reading books.
Now, it was all very real, very life–like, and I didn’t know what to make of it.
“a penny for your thoughts,” Elijah said to me after I had been quiet for so long.
“Honestly?” I asked, and he nodded.
“I’m overwhelmed. I know I told you I’d believe whatever you told me, and obviously I do. I just didn’t expect it to be this weighty.” I said sincerely
“I understand that. I would be surprised if you Successfully unlocked! lead, and feel all your emotions because every
one of them is valid here.”
I pressed my lips together to keep them from wobbling because even though he had just unfolded something great, his compassion just now meant a whole lot and made me emotional.
“Thank you.”

CHAPTER 62 Kyle’s new reality
I stayed at Elijah’s house that night, and then the next night, while I recuperated He offered to go over to my place to gen my things, but I had to decline for fear of seeming like I was moving in. I was not sure that was what I wanted to do Bus didn’t want to go home either.
It wasn’t even an option with Elijah. He barely let me out of his sight it was overwhelming at times, but I understand why
he did it.
He had let me out of his sight the day I got taken, and he didn’t want a repeat of it. But by day three, he had some things to
say to me.
“Do you like it here?” he asked when he brought me breakfast in bed.
I ate some fruit and thought for a moment. Decidedly, I liked his room. I liked that he had given me space and taken some other room. But I sometimes heard footsteps, and voices and wondered if they too were werewches, and that made my heart race from time to time.
“It’s safe. I’m safe. That’s the most important thing, right?”
“right. But it’s not okay if you aren’t comfortable.”
“I don’t think the word in question here is ‘comfort.” I’m not uncomfortable.”
“Then what are you?” he asked and I chewed on my bottom lip.
‘scared. I am scared, Elijah.”
“This is a first.” he finally said, after looking away from me for the longest time.
“uhn?”
“you, being scared. It’s an absolute first. I don’t think I’ve ever heard you say those words. You’re always relentlessly stubborn, and reckless, and full of bravado.*
I slapped his arm at his last statement, and he chuckled.
“I don’t have any bravado.”
“Sure you don’t. Just a whole lot, smart mouth, and false chivalry.”
“How dare you?” I asked, subtly insulted, but he smiled and shook his head.
“I don’t mean that, I don’t mean that.” and he became all serious again, “You, Kylie, are the bravest woman I know And that’s how I know you’re going to be okay. You’re going to be just fine.”
