Chapter 4
I tucked the pregnancy test into my bag. My phone buzzed – Simone Bonilla, my assistant.
“Gemma, the client called. They demand ‘The Glamor‘ tomorrow.”
I frowned.“The deal was next Monday.”
“Something went wrong. They’ll pay more if we deliver on time.”
I considered it.“Tell them we deliver the day after tomorrow, with a fifty percent increase in payment.”
“But the client is tough…”
“That’s my final offer,” I said firmly.“If they refuse, return their money.”
“Okay. I’ll let them know.”
I hung up, about to put my phone down when a trending notification caught my eye. Joshua. Joshua and Julianna Dawson were trending.
“Award–winning actress Julianna Dawson and her wealthy boyfriend enjoyed a romantic week in Paris, returning to America late last night!”
The photo didn’t show Joshua’s face directly, but I recognized him instantly. I stared, unblinking.
Finally, my eyelashes fluttered. I exited the search, opening Instagram instead. Julianna’s latest post. A sunrise photo, posted at 5 AM.
“Finally, back where we belong. And thankfully, you’re still here with me.”
The image felt like a scene from a movie: Joshua and Julianna embracing, watching the sunrise together. He’d left so quickly last night to watch the sunrise with her.
A bitter laugh escaped me. Foolish. I knew he had no feelings for me, yet I craved every detail of his life. A despicable thief, lurking in the shadows, spying on his happiness. I was pathetic, unable to control my own heart, even despising myself for it.
But Julianna was back in America. Soon, he’d propose a divorce. A welcome relief. Free from his world, a stranger once more. Maybe then, these ridiculous, hopeless feelings would finally fade…
