Chapter 8
Alexander’s eyes flicked away.
“You’re just trying to deflect blame.”
“Don’t drag my brother into this!” Vivian snapped.
“Oh, maybe it’s not me. Maybe Alexander’s just… shooting blanks.”
“You-!” Alexander’s face turned red.
He pointed a trembling finger at me.
Go ahead. Deny it.
Say something.
But he didn’t.
He couldn’t.
For a long time, I thought the problem was me.
Back when we were still sleeping in the same bed, still pretending to love each other.
Back before Charlotte came back and everything fell apart.
Two years into the marriage, no birth control, no accidents… something felt off.
I got scared. Booked a doctor’s appointment.
And ran into Alexander at the clinic.
I was about to call out to him–until I heard what he told the doctor.
“I can’t let her get pregnant. That would feel like betraying Charlotte.”
“Charlotte hurt me, yeah. But I won’t do the same to her.”

That was the moment I realized.
He was the one taking pills.
He went behind my back, behind his own biology, to keep me from having a child.
All because he still worshipped the memory of another woman.
From that day on, I knew–this marriage was just for show.
And like an idiot, I kept lying to. myself.
Lied to myself for five more years.
Until Charlotte came back, and even I couldn’t keep up the act anymore.
I didn’t want to air all his dirty laundry.
But I came prepared.
I pulled out a folder from my purse and handed it to Mrs. Westwood.
It held every clinic visit, every prescription, every single record from the past few years.
She flipped through the pages, hands shaking, then slammed her fist against Alexander’s
back.
“What the hell did you do?”
Alexander stood frozen, staring at me like I’d just stabbed him in the chest.
He couldn’t believe I’d gone behind his back.
He couldn’t believe I’d dared outsmart him.
He’s the big shot CEO, right?
And I’m just the worthless woman he never respected.
“You really think, back then, if you had gotten pregnant, you’d know how to raise a kid?“.

Chapter 8
“You can’t even handle yourself now.”
“I didn’t tell you to protect you, and now you’re blaming me?”
Even now, he was gaslighting me.
Still trying to twist it like he was the victim.
Still waiting for me to fall apart and beg him for forgiveness.
But I was done.
So done.
“Alexander, I’m exhausted.”
“You want to keep pretending? Knock yourself out.”
“But I’m filing for divorce. The next time we see each other, it’ll be in court.”
