Chapter 2
Moments later, my phone buzzed with a friend request from an unknown number.
The profile picture was of Rosemary holding a bouquet, taken during the proposal.
The message that followed chilled me to the bone:
“Laura, don’t worry about Lincoln. He’s with me doing his rehab exercises right now.”
Attached was a photo of Lincoln and Rosemary, both lying naked in bed, entwined.
The room’s familiar décor struck me immediately. My heart tightened as I instinctively stepped out and pressed the elevator button.
The entire top floor of the building was a rehabilitation space Lincoln had purchased for his recovery.
For a year, he had insisted I not accompany him there after work.
He claimed the process was too grueling and didn’t want me to see him at his weakest. He didn’t want me to hurt for him–or so he said.
Yet, Rosemary’s regular updates on WhatsApp Moments told a different story.
Every time Lincoln trained, she was by his side. And after the sessions, the two would indulge in pleasures together.
Now, as I stepped off the elevator onto the top floor, the sound of heavy breathing and passionate kissing echoed in the empty space.
“Lincoln… be careful. I’m still carrying your baby!” Rosemary’s voice cooed.
I froze, unable to believe what I was hearing. I approached the half–closed door, my heart pounding.
Peeking through, I saw Lincoln burying his face into Rosemary’s bare neck with fervor.
“Weren’t you full of energy when seducing me? Now bear with it!” Lincoln growled, his tone laced with a twisted
amusement.
With that, he intensified his movements, making the door rattle violently in time with their reckless rhythm.
My hands clenched tightly around the fabric of my sleeves, and tears began to fall uncontrollably.
Inside the room, Rosemary’s coquettish voice pierced the air, sharp and jarring.
“All you do is bully me! Now that your legs are better, when will you take me to meet your family?”

After a brief hesitation, he finally relented.
Just wait a little longer. After you give birth to the baby.”
“Laura can’t have children anyway. I’ll find an opportunity to tell her that we’ll adopt this child as our own.”
“But don’t let Laura find out about this. If you do, I won’t forgive you…”
I never imagined that the infertility I developed after the car accident a year ago would now become Lincoln’s perfect excuse to bring his illegitimate child into our home.
But I vividly remembered how he had knelt by my hospital bed back then, swearing he didn’t care that I couldn’t have children, claiming he loved me deeply.

Silent tears slipped down my cheeks, and a sharp pain throbbed in my chest.
Closing my eyes in exhaustion, I walked downstairs mechanically and returned to my bed.
I barely slept that night. By the time morning arrived, I was still half–awake when I heard Lincoln enter the bedroom
Seeing me still asleep, he lay down beside me gently.
His movement stirred me, and I turned over irritably, pushing him away.
Lincoln chuckled softly, his deep voice filled with amusement
“My dear Laura, even when you’re angry in your sleep, you’re still so beautiful.”
But in truth, my eyes were already open as I lay with my back to him.
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the faint red marks scattered across his neck.
Turning around, my gaze met his, my eyes bloodshot and full of pain.
Lincoln’s expression shifted as he noticed something was wrong a hint of panic flickering across his face.
“Laura, what’s wrong? Didn’t you sleep well?”
Lowering my eyes, I nodded slightly. “I had a nightmare.”
Lincoln sighed in relief and began comforting me patiently.
“Don’t be afraid, I’m here. What did you dream about?”
I looked up at him, my voice trembling as I spoke through the tears.
“I dreamed that you cheated on me, that you had a child with another woman… Lincoln, would you ever do that to
