She wasn’t close to me, and after saying that, she left.

But her final words, “Who’s actually making things difficult for whom,” hit
the truth and planted a seed of doubt in the minds of those present. Sarah
seemed pitiful, but Bella was always the one blamed.
“If there’s nothing else, just move aside. I’m going to have lunch; I still have
classes this afternoon.”
I said, stepping around them and making my exit.
“Hey, Bella, the team has practice this afternoon. Don’t forget to cover my
class and take notes,” Sarah said, her tone soft but carrying an unmistakable
command.
“Whose class is it? You handle your own business; I’ve got my own classes to
attend.”
Sarah’s lackey exploded, “Did you not hear that Sarah has practice? It’s just a
class, taking attendance–how hard can that be? Can’t you even manage that? No
wonder your grades are in the gutter!”
“And by the way, you used to handle this stuff. Now you just decide to bail?
That’s pretty low!”

I turned to face them, “First off, it’s a student’s duty to attend class; she
should go herself. Secondly, this isn’t even my class. Helping out once is a favor,
not an obligation. You can’t guilt–trip me into this!”
My poor grades were a result of constantly covering for Sarah, skipping my
own classes, which left my barely scraping by with passing marks despite acing
the tests!

After making her point, I ignored them and headed toward the classroom
Suddenly, a commotion erupted outside.
In the hallway, a tall, striking figure approached against the light.
He wore a simple white shirt, a coat draped over his arm, his sleeves rolled
up, revealing strong forearms. He looked cool and clean. Sunlight illuminated his
handsome profile, making him look like he had his own spotlight, drawing
countless gazes.
“Wow, who is that?”
“So handsome! Is he a celebrity?”
“Look, he’s carrying a lunchbox! Is he bringing lunch to his girlfriend?”
