Chapter 6
Ten minutes later, when Ethan appeared in the conference room with a cold expression, I
had already ordered the HR department to fire two employees who had openly flattered
Sophia.
I wanted everyone to know that those who offended Ethan’s executive assistant could find
better opportunities at Reid Group, but those who offended me would be packing their bags.
“Victoria, causing a scene at the company in broad daylight. What exactly do you want?”
I remained silent as Jackson placed a divorce agreement in front of Ethan: “Mr. Pierce, you
can review the terms below, then sign at the bottom.”
Ethan stared at the divorce agreement, his eyes flashing with anger: “Victoria, what exactly
are you trying to do?”
I pointed at the document in front of him: “Divorcing you. Can’t you understand?”
“I’ve made the property division very clear. As for the company, our divorce won’t affect
the cooperation between our two families, except that I’ll take an additional five percent of
the year–end bonus.”
“You want to divorce me just because of Sophia?”
“Ethan, I already made myself very clear last time. That was the first and the last time.”
“Since you care so much about your little appraiser, I’ll let you have her.”
“BANG!”
Ethan slammed his hand on the table: “Victoria, I’ve told you many times, I haven’t cheated.
What do I need to do for you to believe me?”
I nodded: “I believe you. I also know you haven’t done anything to betray me yet.”
“Then why do you still insist on divorcing me?”
I looked directly into his eyes: “Because I think you’re tainted.”

“You pacify your employee with a million–dollar necklace, you let her take my place at
banquets, you have candlelit dinners with her, and you even bring her along when visiting
your parents.”
“You see every social media post she makes. Everyone has been warning me that you two have gotten too close, but you ignore it all.”
“Ethan, I’m not an idiot. Aren’t you subtly hinting that I should step aside for her?”
“If I were seen coming and going with a man, bringing him home, dining with him at romantic restaurants, and introducing him to my parents, then told you we had nothing going on, that we were just friends, what would you think?”
I pointed at the divorce agreement in front of him: “Sign it quickly. I have a prenatal checkup scheduled this afternoon and don’t have time to waste with you.”
Ethan froze, staring intently at me: “You’re pregnant?”
“Yes, forty–seven days now.”
Ethan remembered our argument after that banquet and the wild night we spent together.
“Don’t get any ideas. The baby isn’t yours.”
Ethan’s face showed shock: “What are you talking about? That night…”
“I said, it’s not yours.”
I cut him off: “The baby in my womb belongs to whoever I say it belongs to. This child has nothing to do with you. It’s mine alone. Don’t try to claim any connection. The baby will take my surname.”
“Victoria, what exactly do you mean?”
I glanced at him sideways: “Exactly what I said.”
“Ethan, my child doesn’t need a father who can’t forget his first love, much less a father who likes to flirt with his subordinates.”
“You’re not cheating now, but you’ve accepted her provocations toward me, accepted her

feelings for you and all those little moves behind my back. You may be able to maintain your boundaries today, but who knows if you’ll betray me in the future?”
“Ethan, I don’t want to gamble, and I won’t gamble.”
“Prevention is always better than cure.”
“This child, I will raise alone. He will only be my child, with no connection to you
whatsoever.”
“I told you, you’re tainted. I don’t want you anymore.”
“Ethan, let’s get divorced.”
In the end, Ethan still didn’t sign the divorce agreement.
As I walked out of the company doors, Sophia chased after me.
“Mrs. Pierce, please wait.”
She stood before me, neither humble nor arrogant: “Can we talk?”
