Chapter 4
At the Pierce family mansion, I sat with red–rimmed eyes, my hand wrapped in thick
bandages.
Mr. Pierce paced back and forth in the living room, the frustration in his eyes almost tangible, brewing a tremendous storm.
Mrs. Pierce sat beside me, looking at my bandaged arm with concern, her eyes filled with mounting reproach.
An hour earlier, after getting my wound bandaged at the hospital, I had gone directly to Ethan’s parents‘ house, I told them point blank that their precious son had turned against me for an appraiser who resembled his first love. He not only openly defended this appraiser at the company but also brought her to dinners to humiliate me.
Just because I fired that appraiser, he had even cut my hand today and verbally abused me.
As I spoke, my eyes glistened, but I stubbornly refused to let the tears fall. This controlled display of hurt only intensified the elderly couple’s anger toward their son.
Mr. Pierce immediately called Ethan,
“I don’t care where you’re hiding under which slut’s skirt, get back here now!”
“If you don’t appear in front of me within half an hour, don’t bother coming back ever!”
Mrs. Pierce held my hand, pulling me close as if afraid I might run away at any moment. She kept reassuring me softly, repeatedly promising that they would make Ethan apologize today and ensure I wouldn’t suffer the slightest grievance.
I leaned against Mrs. Pierce, occasionally letting out a sob while inwardly thinking about how to escalate the situation.

Chapter 4
I was Ethan’s lawful wife, protected by law, with his parents‘ full support, along with the
inextricably linked business projects between our families, not to mention the economic power that could crush a junior appraiser. Why would I forsake these advantages to compete on who was younger or who more closely resembled Ethan’s dead first love?
Most importantly, my father is like a stubborn mule–if you dare defy him, he won’t let up
until you’re ruined.
I only wanted Ethan to admit defeat today, not let me to become a widow so soon, so I firmly rejected my father’s offer to intervene.
“No use to bring a gun to a knife fight.”
“If I lose tonight, it means the Pierce family isn’t worth my attachment. Then you can step
in, and I won’t stop whatever you do.”
So my father, who had been polishing his ‘gun‘, retreated behind the curtain, becoming a
tiger waiting for a signal.
Half an hour later, the door to the mansion opened, and a frosty–faced Ethan walked in.
Seeing him, I almost couldn’t suppress a smile.
The fool Ethan had actually brought Sophia with him.
As soon as he entered, Ethan sensed the low pressure in the mansion.
“Dad, I was in a meeting. What’s so urgent that you had to call me back right now?”
Mr. Pierce snorted coldly: “What kind of meeting are you having at this hour? Don’t you have time to meet during the day? Why must it be late at night?”
“Who were you meeting with? Tell me so I can verify.”
Ethan fell silent, not expecting his casual lie to be taken so seriously by his father.
He hadn’t been in any meeting; he had been having dinner with Sophia. Her social media post had completely exposed his schedule, which I had already shown to Ethan’s parents.
In front of an outsider, Mr. Pierce gave his son no face: “Speak up! Why are you suddenly
