Chapter 8
Rachel’s POV
The morning sunlight streamed through the tall windows of my new room, casting golden patterns across the plush carpet.
I’d been here for several days now, ever since Emma had deemed me well enough to leave the medical ward.
The luxury of this suite still stunned me–the enormous canopy bed with silk sheets, the marble bathroom with a tub big enough to swim in, the walk–in closet filled with clothes I hadn’t asked for.
I stood by the window, gazing at the clear blue sky. It reminded me Nathan’s eyes–the dangerously piercing way they looked right through me. I hadn’t seen him in two weeks, not since that day in the medical ward when he’d bluntly informed me of my purpose here.
Stop thinking about him, I scolded myself, turning away from the window.
It was ridiculous how often he invaded my thoughts, bow I simultan ously feared and felt drawn to him.
The memory of his touch when he’d brushed my hair from my face sent an involuntary shiver down my spine.
A soft knock on the door pulled me from my thoughts.
Rachel Victoria’s cheerful voice called out.
I quickly crossed the room to open the door, finding her beaming at me with her usual bright smile.
“Good morning! I just wanted to make sure they brought your breakfast already,” she said, stepping into the room.
Her eyes landed on the tray by my bed where the toast was barely touched, and her smile faltered. “Did you not like the toast? I can ask them to bring something else.”
I shook my head quickly. “Victoria, the toast was tasty. Thank you for making it for me. I just didn’t have a large appetite… Sorry!”
Her expression softened as she playfully wagged her finger at me. “You gotta stop saying ‘sorry,‘ miss!”
I couldn’t help
Ip but smile back at her. “Okay, Victoria! Thank you, really.
Despite my circumstances, I had to admit that both Victoria and Emma had made my stay less frightening than I’d anticipated
Their kindness was a
a lifeline in this stra
strange new world I’d been thrust into.
“Oh, Tyler will actually be by soon to fetch you,” Victoria mentioned, moving to sit at the edge of my bed. “Not sure why, but he said Just to let you know he was coming.”
My heart skipped a beat. Tyler never announced his visits beforehand.
“Here, brought you some new clothes!” Victoria continued, pulling out a simple pale blue dress from a bag she carried. “Try them on for me!”
I took the dress, running my fingers over the soft fabric. It was beautiful, but my mind was stuck on Victoria’s earlier words,
Was I finally going to see Nathan?

Chapter 8
The thought made my pulse quicken, memories of those eyes flashing in my mind, along with the gentle way his fingers had touched my face that contrated everything I’d heard about his city.
But then I remembered how he looked at me like 1 was prey, or warse, just a vessel for his heir.
Victoria seemed to read my thoughts. “I know it isn’t my place, Rachel… But being a breeder isn’t necessarily a had thing. You will be giving life to the next Alpha of this pack, and a part of you will like on here forever.”
I swallowed hard, avoiding her gaze. “…I know,”
“Just think about it, okay?” she said gently, squeezing my hand before standing up. I should go. Let me know if
else.
After Victoria left, I began pacing the room, ailely building with each passing minute.
The dress she’d brought fit perfectly, but I barely noticed, too consumed with wondering what Tyler wanted.
I found myself drawn to the window again, staring longingly at the vast green lawn and the forest beyond.

A firm knock interrupted my daydreaming. When I opened the door, tyler stood there, as imposing as ever in his crisp dark suit.
“Rachel…” he said, his expression unreadable as always.
1 smoothed down my dress nervously. “Yes?”
“Are you ready?” he asked.
For what? I wanted to ask, but instead I just nodded. “Um, yes…”
As I followed Tyler through the winding corridors of the mansion, I couldn’t help but notice how different my treatment had been from what I’d expected.
Despite the Ironjaw Packs fearsome reputation, I hadn’t been mistreated. No one had hurt me. I’d been fed, clothed, and given medical care
