Chapter 23
In just a second, Cosimo spun and knocked the gun from Alessio’s hand. It clattered across the wet pavement, disappearing into a storm drain.
“Always so dramatic, you Morettis.”
Pure rage exploded through Alessio’s veins. He lunged with a wild haymaker, but Cosimo sidestepped elegantly and countered with a devastating right cross.
CRACK!
The man who’d been so gentle at the wedding was gone. In his place stood the true De’Medici heir–cold, ruthless, every movement precise and punishing.
His umbrella clattered into the mud as lightning illuminated their savage dance in the rain. But it was hardly a contest. Cosimo systematically dismantled his opponent with surgical precision.
Within moments, Alessio was slumped against the gate, blood streaming from his split lip. Rain washed crimson trails down his battered face.
Cosimo calmly pulled out a silk handkerchief, wiping his knuckles clean. He retrieved his umbrella, shook off the mud, and opened it with practiced elegance.
“Stay away from my family, Moretti. This is your only warning.”
Alessio spat blood into the mud. “You sure that baby’s yours? We were still fucking until she left-”
“Wrong script, Alessio.” Cosimo’s laugh was genuinely amused. “Your baby’s in your sister–in–law Daniela’s womb, remember? Or did you forget which woman you’re supposed to have impregnated?”
The words hit like bullets. Alessio flinched.
“Noemi told me everything,” Cosimo continued, voice dangerously soft. “The night she agreed to marry me. fake death, all your lies. She wanted complete honesty between us.”
He crouched down to Alessio’s level, eyes cold as arctic ice.
Every sick detail about your brother, the
“And no, I don’t have a twin brother to swap places with. I don’t need theatrical tricks. Having Noemi is enough for me.”
“At least I didn’t have to wait twenty–five years like some pathetic stalker-”
“Better a patient man than a lying coward.” Cosimo stood, adjusting his cufflinks. “I built an empire while waiting for her. You destroyed your family playing dress–up as your dead brother. We are not the same.”
Lightning split the sky, illuminating Cosimo’s cruel smile.
“Go home, little boy. Crawl back to Sicily and beg your father’s forgiveness before your bastard brother takes everything.”
“This isn’t over-”
“Yes, it is.” Cosimo turned toward his house. “Oh, and Moretti? Next time you want to threaten someone, make sure they can’t destroy your entire bloodline with one phone call.”
He paused at the gate, looking back.
“Sweet dreams. I know I will–with my pregnant wife in my arms.”
The iron gates clanged shut with finality.
Alessio remained in the mud, shattered. Everything he’d believed, everything he’d fought for–it was all ashes. Noemi hadn’t been confused or misled. She’d chosen this man, told him everything, was carrying his child.

[Chapter 23
While somewhere in Sicily, Daniela carried the heir to his dead brother’s name–the child that had cost him everything.
The storm raged on, but nothing could match the tempest in his broken heart. One man had built an empire while waiting for love. The other had destroyed everything with his lies.
Inside the warm villa, Noemi slept peacefully beside her husband, their child safe within her.
Outside in the cold rain, the ghost of her past lay broken and alone, finally understanding that some betrayals can never be forgiven.
Some loves, once shattered, remain broken forever.
