CHAPTER 31–The strange Bodyguard
Kylie’s POV
I wasn’t sure what woke me up. It shouldn’t have been the quiet way Elijah moved away from me and out of my apartment, but in the end, I think it might have been. I told myself it was nothing. He probably had to run out real quick. But then my brain started functioning and I remembered that he didn’t have to be outside to do anything if it meant sneaking out of my
bed.
So I waited for him to shut the door, before I struggled to get up and watch him through the window. I watched as he disappeared into the night, only to resurface moments later, carrying a sleeping girl in his arms and I froze.
What was Elijah doing with another woman in his arms after he had just been with me?
He disappeared again, into the a building and I supposed that led to the girl’s apartment.
I couldn’t believe my eyes. I couldn’t believe Elijah.
“How could you?” I whispered, as I backed away from the window. There had been a sorority party going on some houses away, the girl Elijah carried was possibly a drunk friend who had been knocked out by alcohol.
But why did it have to be him coming to her rescue? Unless, there was actually something going on between them in the first place.
I know we haven’t really seen eye to eye these past couple of days, but he really did not have to go be with someone else, right after being with me. It wasn’t okay. I didn’t feel okay.
“What if he decides to come back?” I questioned and shook my head furiously. I did not want to have to deal with him if he came back tonight.
So tugging on some casual clothes, I left my apartment and went out into the night air to clear my head.
I was so deep in thought about what all this meant for me and Elijah that I didn’t hear the footsteps coming up from behind
- me.
When I finally didn’t notice I was being followed, I ducked into a bright alley that led up to the house party, picking up my pace as the footsteps got closer, panic slowly rising up my throat.
Perhaps it was the fear, but I skipped a step and tripped over myself, closing the distance between me and my follower. And I let out a shrill cry when I felt bony hands on. My shoulder.
“Don’t hurt me!” I cried out, and the bony hands fell away.
“Hurt you? Why would I hurt you?” The figure said and I drew my brows in recognition.
Rising and turning around, I came face to face with the sculpture that had attacked me nights ago.
“You!” I cried and the sculpture took a step back, “how are you here ?! What are you?!”
“I can only answer one of those questions, if you’ll let me.” The figure said, arms in the air, “and I apologize for the wrong footing we got off on.” The figure said.
I was skeptical, my hand over my racing heart. But it hadn’t tried to attack me yet, so I guess I wasn’t completely in a fix.
“What do you want?” I said with forced bravado.
“What I was called to do.”
“And what is that?”
“To keep you safe.”
To say that took me aback and I looked at the figure somewhat shocked.
“To keep me safe? You weren’t keeping me safe when you attacked me.”
“Like I said, wrong footing. And I’m sorry about it.” The figure said and I sighed out in what I believe was relief.
“Fine then. If you say it was a mistake, a misunderstanding, wrong footing or whatever. Then so be it. But what are you keeping me safe from?” I asked, truly hoping to get some answers. Even it seemed from
The most mundane situation.
“There are things lurking in the shadows, very evil things.”
“Things like what? Werewolves?” I asked and the interest of the figure seemed to rise.
“Ah. You know about the werewolves then.” He said and I waited for him to say more, when he didn’t, I nodded.
“I know about them. I know that they exist. But I have very little information about what they are about.”

“Then I’ll tell you Best to arm yourself with as much knowledge as you can ”
“Great “I said, willing to learn Thankfully it would be an interesting topic. Even if it wasn’t interesting, anything was definitely better than pondering if Elijah and his new mystery woman.
“The werewolves are very primal creatures. In the past, they were known as creatures of the night, constantly bending to the will of the moon, with no control of their shapeshifting on the full moon. They were wild at night, hurting everyone and everything in their path, killing them too, if ever they were stronger than their prey Overtime, they have managed to shapeshift at will, keeping their human side as often as they do not wish to be in their animal form. Only changing To their animal form when they had to. It is safe to say that werewolves have really adapter and evolved.”
“Could they always live among us as they do now?”
“No, they couldn’t. They preferred to be among their own kind, plus they couldn’t shift forms as they do now. But even now, they prefer to be together, still among their own kind. It’s where the whole pack thing came from. ”
“Oh I see. That sounds like they know exactly what they are doing.”
“Of course they do. Exactly why I need to protect you from the ones lurking around your school. I won’t leave until I know you are safe. Your safety is my priority,”
I offered a grateful smile and sighed. I did feel better for having him around. At the very least, the ache on my heart had grown faint.
But in as much as I felt better, I couldn’t help the wave of regret that settled in as I considered what in the world I was doing with Elijah anyway.
Clearly I was just an option to him. There was nothing as painful as being with a person who made you feel like an option. Especially when they were your ‘only‘
Perhaps starting this relationship with Elijah was a mistake after all.
The sculpture walked me back to my room and bid me goodnight. But Elijah was not back and my mind was over active, so I couldn’t go back to sleep, so I decided to do something research on werewolves and other supernatural being.
While I was at it, I received an email from a stranger claiming to be a werewolf hunter.
“I am currently in search of werewolves,” he wrote, “is it possible that you know of any?”
It was strange that the message was sent to me, stranger yet that I had an appropriate reply.
“Yes. I believe I might have seen one.” I clicked send and got a reply almost immediately.
“Well that’s just convenient. Would you like to meet so we can discuss this? You can pick a time and a place.”
