CHAPTER 19–IMIND
CHAPTER 19- I MIND
Kylie’s POV
I was about to scream out of fright but the person covered my mouth with their huge palm.
“Don’t be scared, it’s me.” Elijah spoke up, making me stop struggling at once. I called down and looked up to see his face illuminated by the faint light of the alley.
He let me go and stepped back. I asked, “Elijah? What are you doing here? Didn’t you have a match today?”
“I had but I came back.” He said.
“What? Why? What happened?”
The guy did not answer my question and instead asked, “Where were you going?”
I clutched my bag tightly and looked away, “Nowhere.”
“Kylie.” He called me, “Tell me the damn truth.”
“Nowhere. It’s none of your business.” I said and tried to divert the topic, “Why did you
come back?”
The man pursed his lips, his expression getting serious. He said, “You are going for that nude model gig, aren’t you?”
When I heard him say this, my eyes opened wide in shock. I stuttered, “How did you know that?”
“We live in the same damn house, Kylie. I have access to internet history.”
“Internet history? Were you spying on me?” While saying this, I also realized something, “And did you abandon your game for this?”
“That’s not the point.” He berated, “Why are you doing this?”
I kept mum, not wanting to tell him anything but when he asked me again, a little harshly this time, I could not keep quiet. I told him what happened and this just seemed to piss him off more.
“Your parents are a bunch of fuckers but why are you being an idiot? Why did you not tell me about this earlier?”
“I did not want to trouble you.” I said, “Besides, this is my problem. What can you even do about it?”
“I might not be much but you could have told me. We would have figured out something.”

“There is no need for that. I have you covered. I said, “This one photoshoot is paying me enough to pay the fees.”
Elijah’s face turned sour when he heard my words. He said, “You are not doing it.”

“What? Why?”
“Because I said it.” He asserted, “I won’t allow you to do it.”
I lost it when I heard his words, “I never asked for your permission. Who do you think you are to stop me from doing what I want? My boyfriend?”
“We are sleeping together.”
“So what? What doesn’t make you my boyfriend.” I yelled back at him, “Elijah, we are in a fake relationship. You are not my boyfriend. You have no damn right to interfere in my business.”
Elijah was so angry that he was visibly shivering. He pointed his finger at me and said, “ Kylie, I will just give you another chance to think this through. If you decide to walk away from here, we are over.”
I stared into his eyes in disbelief. Did he really just threaten to end his friendship with me over something like this?
“Are you serious right now?”
He ignored my words and repeated himself, “You can either go in there and do the shoot or come home with me. The choice is yours.”
I pulled my bag closer and said, “If you can toss away our friendship over something so silly, you don’t respect it enough for me to sacrifice something for it.” I turned on my heels and started walking out of the alley.
“Kylie. Is this what you are choosing? Kylie!” Elijah screamed at my back but I
continued walking, not stopping a bit to entertain him.
My mood was ruined to the core because of the argument. I know what I was doing was stupid and not everyone will agree with it but I had faith that Elijah would understand. He was the last person I expected to pick up a fight and throw out the whole friendship over this.
I did not have time to ponder as the manager was waiting right there for me.
“Miss Wade?” He looked at me and asked.
“Hello, Mr McAlister.” I shook his hand.
He said, “Wow, you look more stunning than the pictures.”
“Thank you.”
“Why don’t you start getting ready for the shoot, eh? Lwill get the contract ready. Once we get through with it, we can start the shoot.”
I nodded my head and followed–some of the set assistants to the dressing room.
I sat on the dressing table as the hairdresser was curling my hair. I looked at myself in the mirror and could say I was nervous. I could not stop thinking about Elijah.
He must not be serious. I am sure he will come back if I apologize to him. There was

nothing to worry about.
Right?
No, this was not the time to think. I am already here and we are getting this through. Just then, the door of the room was pushed open and Mr McAlister entered with a tired face. I asked, “Is… everything alright?”
He immediately put on a smile and said, “Miss Wade, we will have to postpone the shoot.”
“Oh, no. Why?” I looked at the hairdresser and then at the manager.
He said, “It was a direct order from the CEO. We don’t know the reasons yet.”
My heart sank. This was the only plan I had, how was I going to arrange for the money? The manager said, “Don’t worry, Miss Wade. We will clear this out and do the shoot as soon as possible.”
I did not say anything, just nodded and put on my clothes.
I was extremely dejected and my mind was blank. I had no idea what I was going to do now, this was my only hope. I checked my purse and there were a few bucks left.
Since I was going broke, I would rather spend this once and for all.
called Jessica and invited her to drink at a bar nearby. By the time she came, I was almost done with half the bottle of vodka.
Jessica asked, “What happened? Did they pay you extra?”
“No, quite the opposite actually.” I hiccuped, “The shoot got canceled and we don’t know when it will happen.”
“Oh, that’s not good.” She sat down and asked, “Are you okay?”
“No, I am not.” I said, “This stupid shoot was my only hope. Now I am not getting the money and I fought with Elijah over it.”
“You did what?” Jessica asked.
I narrated the whole story and the girl was shocked, “He left the game to come talk to you out of it.”
“Yeah… What an asshole!” I said.
Jessica said, “The way he argued with you was not nice but the guy has a point. You should have told him.”
“Are you seriously going to support him?” Hlooked at my best friend and questioned her loyalty.
She said, “I am not supporting him but I understand where he is coming from. Even I was skeptical about you taking on this work, but I did not want to interfere as you had clearly made up your mind. He restricted you because he genuinely cares about you.”

“Wait… You were not happy with this either?”
“Who would be? You are a good girl, Kylie. It was really heartbreaking to see you degrading yourself like that.” She put her hand on my shoulder to comfort me.
“I…” My eyes watered up as I was slowly realising what I was doing. I was so blinded by desperation that I was about to throw down my morals.
Jessica hugged me and said, “Kylie, I understand you want to do this alone but don’t have to. You are not alone, you have us. It is okay to take our help.”
I broke down in tears, “I am stupid. I am extremely stupid.”

Jessica was right. I was so invested in doing it on my own and not being a burden on anyone that I was willing to harm myself. Elijah cared for me so much that he abandoned his match to stop me from doing something that I might regret later. He was genuinely concerned and I threw away my friendship because of my
stubbornness.
Jessica calmed me down and said, “It’s Elijah. He will come around, don’t worry about
him.”
I wiped my tears and nodded my head. Jessica took the vodka glass from my hand and kept it aside. She said, “Let’s go. You are drunk.”
I was sober enough to rethink everything on my way back home. I tried to call Elijah
but his phone was turned off. I had no idea where he was as his landlord told me he wasn’t home either. All I could do was hope he went back to play the rest of his
matches and come back as soon as he could.
I sent out a text asking him to call me as soon as he was free before sitting down on my laptop. I sent an email to Mr McAlister saying that I was no longer interested in the collaboration.
After this was done, I shut down my laptop and hugged my knees. I had no idea what I was going to do now but I was sure something would come up.
