I was greatly relieved that I was out of this matrimony. Tony is an animal who is infamous for torturing all of his previous girlfriends, men like him don’t deserve. married at all. Elijah greatly surprised me as well, he did not try to take advantage of me and was very respectful. But there was one thing that was bugging me. I asked, ” Elijah, what were you doing at my house last night?”
The man, who was folding his bedsheets, stopped momentarily. He said, “I don’t wanna sound like a stalker but I followed you home last night.”
“Why?” I was taken aback. How can he confess to doing something like this so casually?
He explained, “I know I was being an asshole to you and what you think of me is right, I am a playboy but that is in the past. I want you to see me with a new outlook.”
“What do you mean?”
He sat down next to me and said in a solemn tone, “I like you, Kylie. I really do. I know you might have a hard time believing it but I am serious about you.”
I broke down in chuckles thinking that he was funny but immediately stopped when The did not laugh along. I cleared my throat and said, “Yeah, it is indeed hard to believe. Why me, though? Ashley Howard is crazy about you and she is the hottest girl in school. Why not just go for her?”
“I don’t care about Ashley. In fact, I don’t give a fuck about any of them, they are all the same. But you… you are different! I have never known anyone like you before.”
Elijah’s eyes gleamed mysteriously when he said the last line and it made my heart skip a beat.
Did he mean it?
Is this how he really feels about me?
Is this some kind of ploy he is tricking me into?
I stopped my thoughts and reminded myself that even Justin had said those things to me. I trusted someone once so easily and got hurt, I was not going to make the same mistake again.
I smiled and got up from my seat, “Okay, Mr. Casanova Freshen up, I will prepare breakfast.”
That’s enough for today.
Elijah and I went to school together but I stopped at a shop, claiming to buy a few stuff, and asked him to leave first. I lied, obviously. I did not want anyone to see us together so I wasted a good fifteen minutes at the shop before entering the school.
Jessica immediately lunged at me as soon as I entered the classroom. She asked, ”

Hey, are you okay?”
“Yeah. Did you do what I asked you to?”
Last night I texted her, telling her everything that went down. She knew the lady who was in charge of the school dormitory so I asked if she could find me an
accommodation.
When the girl inquired, she was told that since I was in the same city, I would need a strong reason to get a dorm room. So, I decided to take up an internship at school to be eligible for the room.
Jessica nodded and said, “Yes, I have spoken to the mentor. He asked you to meet him
at his office.”
I sighed, “Hopefully I will get to move into the dorm by tonight.”
“You will! If you don’t, we both can go live at my parent’s place tonight.”
I smiled, feeling a little guilty. I did not tell Jessica that I was living with Elijah, that would make her suspicious. Instead, I told her that I found myself a room in a cheap
motel.
The day went by as usual, else than a few boring classes, there was nothing else to do. Finally, it was time to go to school and I headed toward the mentor’s office to talk to her.
Our school, focused on building real–life working skills within the students, had internship programs. Any student who is interested in it can take part in it and acquire additional benefits, including work experience certificates.
After school, I wanted to get into healthcare and establish my career as an orthopedic nurse. I was hoping to secure an internship at the nurses’s office.
“Ah, Kylie. You are here.” Miss George, the student’s mentor, greeted me when she saw me at her office door.
“Good evening, Miss George. I am here to talk about the internship.” I said, entering her
office.
“Yes, Jessica told me all about it. I am so sorry about what happened. It was really brave of you to take that step and not give up on your studies.” Miss George said. She was a very kind–hearted teacher, and after knowing that I had been kicked out, she immediately agreed to help/
I smiled, “I want to become something in life, Miss George. I am not giving up on my studies.”
“Excellent! This is why Mike you.” She said before flipping through a document and fishing out a form. She said, “Jessica told me that you want to make a career in nursing. A really noble field.”
“So, am I going to be working at the nurse’s office?” I asked, my tone unable to conceal

my excitement.
“No, there is no opening there. But I found you something better.” She kept the form on the table for me to see.
I picked it up and spelled out, “Sports medicine?”
“Yeah. You wanted to be an orthopedic nurse and there is no better field to find broken bones.”
Sports medicine? Fuck my luck…
I was doing all this to stay away from Justin and Elijah but fate kept dragging me back. to them. I went through the description and it required me to assist the head nurse of the sports department in every single match. This was awful, I did not want them to meet them even for a second, let alone bear them for the whole match.
Miss George noticed that I was silent and asked, “What happened, Kylie? Is something bothering you?”
I looked at her and lowered the form, “Miss George, can you find me something else?! don’t want to take this?”
“Something else? Why?” She was a bit shocked when I turned down this offer.
I said, “I… I kinda have a bad relationship with a few members of the team.”
“Are you talking about Elijah?” She asked, making my eyes widen in shock, “How did you know?”
“You know right, we teachers gossip too. Elijah is the most popular guy, him asking a girl out is a piece of sensational news.”
My cheeks reddened in embarrassment, I wondered who else was gossiping about this. What must they be thinking about me?
I shook my head and said, “Now I definitely don’t wanna do this internship.”
“Calm down, Kylie.” The mentor said before adding, “I know how awkward this
is must be for you and you must be worried about all the rumors that are gonna circulate but trust me, once you are out of school, none of this will matter. Everyone will get busy trying to get into a college and sorting out their life, no one’s gonna stop to chatter about who you dated in school.”
I did not say anything, she had a PoJessica said the same thing that these all are
gonna die down soon.
She continued, “This internship is going to help you a lot in the future, whether it is to get into a college or apply for a job. Do you really want to let go of this opportunity for random boys who are not even gonna be in your life after a few months?”
I bit down on my lips, She was right, Justin and Elijah were not important to me. What was important to me was my studies and my career. I was not going to let these boys ruin my chance for a better future.

“So, what do you say, Kylie? Do you want to take it?”
I smiled and nodded my head in determination, “Yes, Miss! I am going to take this internship.”
Very good. Now fill up the form and get your permission letter. It will get you a room in the dormitory.” Miss George passed me the pen and helped me fill out the form.
I successfully registered for the internship and had the permission letter in my hand. Now, I can move out of Elijah’s house and start my life afresh.
Jessica had already gone home so I had to go to the dormitory on my own. I was not planning to go back to Elijah’s place as I had nothing left there. But since he was kind enough to let me stay, it was only morally right for me to inform him once.
I picked up my phone and dialed his number, only to see him standing near the shop. where we parted ways this morning.
I hung up the call and went to him, “Elijah, what are you doing here?”
He was busy typing something on his phone but when he heard my voice, he stopped and looked up, “I was waiting for you.”
“You were here the whole time?” I asked, guilt welling inside me. The man nodded, making me apologize, “I am sorry, I had some work to take care of. I should have informed you.”
“It’s ok. Let’s go home.” He said. I bit down on my lips and said, “About that… I got myself a room in the dormitory.”
“You did? Congratulations.” He said in a solemn tone.
“Thank you, I will go there directly.”
“Let me walk you there.” He insisted and despite me saying no, he accompanied me.
Elijah and I walked to the gates before stopping, I looked at him and said, “Thank you. for everything you have done for me so far.”
He grunted and I continued, “I am really thankful but, I think we should stop seeing
each other.”
The man was silent for a while before parting his lips to say, “You should go inside, it’s getting late.”
I understood that he wa
I understood that he was upset and did not force it. “Bye, Elijah.” I walked into the door, leaving him behind. I had said what I had to say, hopefully, he would comply.
