Chapter 42
Sienna.
The evening air was cool against my skin as I stood on the balcony outside my room. This room had more memories than I thought that it would, but I knew this. No matter how hard I was going to try and deny it, things were not the same. Me being inside this room did not mean the things were going to ever go back to the way that they were.
Isla was with the nurses. They believe that it would be good for me to be able to get some rest and they would be taking care of her considering that she was fed and was well taken care of throughout the whole day by me. I wanted to argue, but I also knew that they might have a point. Getting some sleep was a good thing, but ouldn’t. Plus it was a little too early for me to be able to do so
anyway.
I leaned against the railing, wrapping my arms around myself, lost in thought.
Today had been… eventful.
Between arguing with Lysandra, walking out of the room for the first time and everything that had happened, Damon even defending me. Everything was just a mess.
But I somehow managed to stand through it all.
That had to count for something, right?
I mean, I could have just collapsed or found it in myself to weaken. I did not.
A soft knock at the door made me turn. I frowned, pushing off the railing, making my way inside.
“Come in,” I called, catching Damon’s scent, frowning in confusion. It could have been a mistake. My wolf could just still be jumbled up with recovering from the afterbirth and everything that I’ve been through.
The door creaked open, and when I saw who it was, I froze.
Damon.
He really was Damon. It wasn’t someone else. It wasn’t my wolf playing games on me.
He stood there, leaning against the doorframe like he hadn’t spent the morning with me. Plus, I believed that he knew that Isla was not going to be here, she was going to be with the nurses for him to come here was something that I did not understand. His green eyes flickered over me, something unreadable in them, before he pushed the door shut behind him.
I crossed my arms. “Did you get lost? Because I doubt that any of your paths or whatever places that you go to lead to my
bedroom.”
His lips twitched, but he ignored the comment.
Instead, he stepped further inside, his gaze flickering toward the crib that was waiting for Isla before settling back on me.
“I came to apologize,” he said finally.
I blinked. “You? Apologizing? I’m sorry but I’m completely lost.”
Damon rolled his eyes, rubbing the back of his neck. “I know, shocking.”
A laugh bubbled up in my chest before I could stop it. And I could swear that I saw a faint smile forming on his lips as if he was

more amused in this than he wanted to admit “Are you sick? Should call the pack doctor? Maybe check if you have a fever? You know, are you dying? Is that why you’re deciding to apologize? Do you want to redeem yourself?”
His lips curved into something close to a smirk. “Believe it or not, 1 an admit when I’m wrong.”
I arched a brow. “That’s news to me. New news, I will admit.”
He exhaled sharply, shaking his head before his expression turned serious again. “I wanted to apologize for what Lysandra said to you earlier. She had no right…”
