Chapter 81
Mira’s POV
The days after I woke up blurred into a routine of recovery. I was weak and tired, but with every passing day, my strength began to return. And through it all, Killian stayed. He refused to leave my side, despite the nurses‘ protests and my father’s insistence that he needed rest.
“No,” he would say each time someone tried to make him leave. “I’m staying with her.”
And he did. He slept on the small couch in my room, his tall frame awkwardly curled to fit the narrow space. Every morning, I woke to find him sitting by my bed, ready with a tray of food or a gentle reminder to take my
medicine.
“You need to eat, Mira,” he would say, his tone both firm and kind. “No arguments.”
At first, I tried to protest. “Killian, you don’t have to do all this,” I told him one afternoon as he fluffed my pillows and tucked the blanket around me.
“I know I don’t have to,” he replied, his black eyes meeting mine with a softness that made my heart flutter. “I want to. You’re important to me, Mira. Let me take care of you.”
I had no response to that. How could I argue with someone who looked at me like I was the most precious thing in the world? Instead, I let him take care of me, and slowly, I began to rely on his presence.
Every day, Killian ensured I ate all my meals, took my medicines on time, and rested properly. He was gentle in a way that made my heart ache.
One evening, as I sat up in bed with a tray of food in front of me, I couldn’t help but watch him. He was pacing the room, talking softly about the pack and his plans for the future. His voice was steady, confident, and I found myself drawn to the man he had become.
–
As the pale light of the moon filtered through the window, I found myself watching him. He was seated on the couch, a book balanced on his knee, though he wasn’t reading. His gaze was distant, lost in thought, and the lines of worry etched into his face made my chest ache.
“Killian,” I said softly.
He looked up immediately, setting the book aside. “What is it? Are you okay?”
I smiled faintly at his concern. “I’m fine,” I said. “I just… I wanted to thank you. For everything.”
He stood and walked over to me, sitting on the edge of the bed. “You don’t have to thank me, Mira. Taking care of you–it’s not a chore. It’s a privilege.”
“You’re too good to me,” I said softly.
He tilted his head, his eyes locking with mine. “I’m only giving you what you deserve,” he said. “And honestly, it’s not enough. I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you if you’ll let me.”
I blinked, my breath catching at the raw emotion in his voice. “Why are you doing this?” I asked. “After everything that happened between us, why now?”

He reached out, taking my hand in his. His thumb brushed gently over my knuckles, and when he spoke, his voice was thick with regret. “Because I was a fool,” he said. “When I rejected you, I thought I was doing the right thing. I thought I was protecting both of us. But I was wrong, Mira. So wrong. And I have spent every day since then wishing I could take it back.”
Tears pricked at my eyes, and I shook my head. “Killian…”
“I know I hurt you,” he continued, his voice breaking. “And I’ll never forgive myself for that. But I love you, Mira. I have loved you for longer than I can admit, and I don’t want to waste another second pretending otherwise.”
His confession left me speechless. My heart thundered in my chest, and my wolf stirred within me, her approval a warm hum in the back of my mind. He is ours, she whispered. He always has been.
I reached out, my hand resting on his cheek. “You really mean that?” I asked softly.
“With every fiber of my being,” he said. “You’re my mate, Mira. And I’ll spend the rest of my life proving that to
you.”
Before I could second–guess myself, I leaned forward, pressing my lips to his. The kiss was soft at first, tentative, but it quickly deepened. His arms wrapped around me, pulling me closer, and I felt the heat of his love and devotion in every touch.
When we finally broke apart, we were both breathless. He rested his forehead against mine, his black eyes searching mine. “Are you sure about this?” he asked, his voice husky with emotion. “I don’t want to rush you.”
I smiled, my fingers tracing the line of his jaw. “I have never been more sure of anything,” I said. “I want this, Killian. I want you.”
His lips found mine again, and this time, there was no hesitation. His hands moved to the hem of my shirt, and he paused, giving me one last chance to change my mind. But I didn’t. I raised my arms, letting him lift the fabric away, and the cool air against my skin was nothing compared to the warmth of his touch. “You’re so beautiful,” he murmured, his eyes filled with awe as he traced a line down my collarbone.
I felt a blush rise to my cheeks. “You’re not the same boy who rejected me,” I said softly. “You have become
so much more.”
“And I’ll spend the rest of my life making up for that mistake,” he said, his voice fierce with determination. “I’ll never hurt you again, Mira. That’s a promise.”
As he leaned down to kiss me once more, I felt a sense of completeness I had never known before. This wasn’t just love–it was a bond, a connection that ran deeper than words. Killian wasn’t just my mate. He was my partner, my protector, my home.
When it was over, we lay tangled together, our breathing slowing as the weight of what had just
happened settled over us. Killian pressed a kiss to my temple. He wrapped his arms around me protectively. “You’re mine now,” he murmured, his voice filled with possessive pride.
“And you’re mine,” I replied, feeling a deep satisfaction as my wolf echoed my words.
We marked each other then, his teeth sinking gently into the curve of my neck, and mine doing the same to him. The bond that formed between us was undeniable, our souls entwining in a way that felt both ancient and eternal.
“You’re mine forever,” he said softly, his lips brushing against the mark he had left on my skin.

“And you’re mine, I echoed, my heart swelling with love.
In that moment, I knew we had truly become one.
