I felt it the moment Commander reached out to Fortune. When I told her no one was around, she was still reluctant to accept it, but I assured her I would help hide it from Mack. Not that she doesn’t want him to know–she just wants a private moment with Commander. Knowing we’ll spend much more time together in human form, I’m willing to help her out.
I discovered this part of my ability to conceal Fortune a few years ago during a discussion with Pauline. If I concentrate hard enough, I can hide the presence of another’s Wolf or Lycan. They have to be standing really close to me, and Commander and Fortune are trying to snuggle into one another, which is more than close enough to use my ability.
Mack and I will feel the bond Commander and Fortune formed after we shift back. It might confuse him at first, and I may need to explain a few things. This will certainly make our meeting a lot more interesting- he’s going to become unbearably possessive and overprotective. I might have to test whether my aura is stronger than his.
Yeah, Mack will have the most problems with what I have to say and my Dad will be right behind him.
I can hear both of them purring as they rub against each other. Then I sense the Warriors returning, and Fortune steps away from Commander just before they emerge.
“He’s locked up and will be with us for a while,” one Warrior tells Fortune. She nods once before heading toward the house–we both need rest. Commander follows at a respectful distance, and I know Fortune appreciates that.
Commander waits for me as we shift back behind a tree. I scratch him behind his ears. “Thank you, Commander,” I say before I turn my back on him and walk into the house where Dad is waiting for me. He wraps me in his arms the moment he can, and I savor the embrace like I did as a Pup–right now, I just need my Father to hold me.
“Go shower, and I’ll have dinner ready when you come down,” Dad says, kissing my forehead before steering me toward the stairs. I am half way up the stairs when I realize I left my car at the gate, but Dad seems to know what I was thinking.
“Mack drove your car here and I already took everything out, it is all in your room.” He says with a smile and I see my Phone on the dresser drawer near the door.
“I pulled the battery out. That damn thing was getting on my nerves, and according to Colter, one angry Lycan running around the territory was enough,” he says. I hear Fortune chuckle in my head as I hurry to my room.
I really need a shower and some clean clothes might be a good idea too, something comfy for a night on the
couch.
After taking a shower and putting on my wide legged lounge pants with matching cami top and long cardigan, I head down the stairs to the kitchen and a smile appears on my face as I smell what my Dad prepared for us. Beef stew according to my paternal Grandmother’s recipe and even Fortune lifts up her head to have sniff–both of us love the smell of this dish.
“You know that I have a lot of questions, but I will leave them until tomorrow. Just know that you can tell me anything–I will never hold anything against you.” Dad says and I know that will be it for tonight, but

After reaching the Pack–house, Commander gave me back control, but ever since shifting back to my Human form, I have been feeling off. Almost as if something or maybe someone is missing. I don’t like this feeling and Commander isn’t much help either.
He is curled up in the back of my head. Normally I would say something is wrong when he is like this, but the feeling I get from him is a relaxed and happy feeling.
I ask one of the Omegas to bring some dinner to my Quarters. I just want to take a shower and be left alone for a while. Dad is waiting for me in our living room and before he can say anything, I tell him I need a shower.
“I will be right back and then I will answer any question you might have, but I doubt I have answers for you.” I tell him before I disappear into my room.
As I stand under the cascading water, I remember seeing Fortune standing in front of those Rogues. She is a lot bigger than I had suspected and I wonder how that is even possible. A Lycan is bigger than a Wolf, but a female Lycan is always smaller than an Alpha Wolf and I have to admit that Fortune is almost as big as Commander. Which is very unusual for a female Lycan, not that I am complaining, it just raises some questions.
Her fur is the exact same color as Maleah’s hair color–another amazing thing about Fortune and hearing that Maleah can link anyone that is within range is unusual.
I found out on my way up it was Maleah that warned a Warrior about the Rogues, but how she found out before our patrols did will remain a mystery until tomorrow and I guess I will have about a million other questions before the sun comes up again.
Dad is waiting for me in the kitchen with our dinner, looks like he didn’t want to have dinner down in the dining room either and as I dig into my food, I once again feel as if I am missing something.
“What is going on, Son?” Dad asks and for a moment I want to tell him that I’m fine, but the look in his eyes makes me change my mind.
“Ever since I shifted back, I have been feeling as if I am missing something. I don’t like the way it is making me feel.” I say.
“How is Commander doing?” He asks before digging into his food again, and when I tell him what I sense coming from Commander, a smile forms on his face.
“You don’t have to answer me, but has Commander been feeling a connection to someone?” Dad asks and my fork hangs midair as his words register. Commander was able to spend time with Fortune in their Lycan form.
“How come I didn’t notice or see anything?” I ask Commander.
“Because Maleah used her gift to hide it from you. Fortune needed some alone time with me and Maleah understands her Lycan. The two of you will spend more time together than I will with Fortune and she was happy to give us what we both wanted.” Commander answers me and when I tell Dad what I talked about with Commander, the smile on his face becomes even bigger.
“You, my Son, have experienced something only a few Wolves and Lycans have or will experience. It is rare for Wolves or Lycans to spend time together to start the forming of the Mate–bond, usually it is the Human
form that gets to form the Mate–bond on their own.

Your bond with Maleah will be solid in a few days. You might not need the four days it usually takes and that means your bond will be a lot stronger than most Mate–bonds.” Dad explains and now I understand what I am missing–it isn’t a something but a someone.
We talk about the upcoming Spring Ball and I am glad I will not have to attend it anymore, unless Maleah is willing to accompany me that is. I would never go there without my Mate by my side, but before I can talk to Dad about it, I get a link from Dillon.
“Get your Father and come to our office downstairs.” He says before he closes the link again, and as I get out of my seat, I tell Dad we are needed in the Alpha office.
I hate being in the dark but if Dillon tells me I am needed downstairs, I will not argue with him. I walk down the stairs with Dad right beside me, neither one of us too happy with this interruption. My mood changes even worse when I see two Council Elders sitting in the Alpha office.
“What the fuck are they doing here?” Commander growls the moment he sees them, but I hate this as much as he does and I wish I knew what they are doing here.
