Chapter 33

Mira’s POV

The next morning, I woke up feeling drained but determined. The events of the past few days had left me with more questions than answers, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that the truth was close, just out of reach. I got dressed quickly and headed downstairs

My mother was in the kitchen, bustling around as she always did. When she saw me, she smiled, but there

was a hint of worry in her eyes

Good morning, sweetheart, she said gently. How are you feeling today?”

I’m fine,” I replied, trying to sound more confident than I felt. I didn’t want her to see how shaken I was. Good. What would you like for breakfast?she asked, her voice light as she opened the refrigerator

Whatever is there,I said, shrugging. Food was the last thing on my mind, but I knew I needed to keep up

appearances

As she started preparing something, I glanced around. My father was sitting at the dining table, sipping his coffee and reading a newspaper. I hesitated for a moment before asking, Where is Sophia?”

My father looked up, his expression calm but unreadable. She is not home,” he said. She went to see Killian

”

I bit my lip, my heart clenching at the mention of Killian, but I pushed the feeling aside. I had more important things to focus on

Taking a deep breath, I sat down at the table. I need to talk to you both about something important,I said, trying to keep my voice steady

My mother turned off the stove and joined us, sitting down across from me. Her eyes were filled with concern. What is it, Mira? What’s wrong?”

I hesitated for a moment, gathering my thoughts. When I ran away,I began, I was attacked by rogues in the forest. An Alpha named Aaron, from the Blue Moon Pack, rescued me and gave me shelter. At first, he seemed kind, but later, I found out that he wanted to harm me.”

My mother’s eyes widened, and she reached for my hand, squeezing it tightly. Harm you? What do you

mean?”

I swallowed hard, the memories still fresh in my mind. He planned to sacrifice me on the full moon night,” I said quietly. He wanted mypowers.”

Both of my parents froze, their expressions shifting from shock to something I couldn’t quite placewas it

fear

There is more,I continued. When I was at the hospital, I met an old woman. She told me that you had cast a spell on me when I was a baby to protect me from someone who wanted to sacrifice me. She said if I wanted to know the truth, I needed to visit her at the old cottage by the willow tree near the eastern borde. Of our pack’s territory.”

My father was the first to speak, his voice firm. That woman is just talking nonsense, Mira. You shouldn’t

believe her. As for this Alpha Aaron, we don’t know who he is. But it’s a good thing you have returned home safely. He can’t harm you now. Everything will be fine.”

I stared at him, my chest tightening. He was lyingI could feel it. They both were. Fine,I said, my voice cold. If you don’t want to tell me the truth, I’ll find it out myself. The old woman will tell me everything.”

I stood up, ready to leave, but my mother placed a hand on my shoulder. Her touch was gentle but firm. Wait, she said softly. Sit down, Mira. I’ll tell you the truth.”

I hesitated, my heart racing, but I sat back down. My mother looked at my father, who gave her a reluctant nod. She took a deep breath before speaking

You’re not our biological daughter, Mira, she said, her voice trembling. We adopted you when you were just a baby. Sophia is our real daughter.”

Her words hit me like a punch to the gut. I felt the air leave my lungs as the world tilted around me. What?” I whispered, barely able to get the word out

I know this is hard to hear, she said, tears welling up in her eyes. “But it’s the truth. When you were a baby, someone knocked on our door in the middle of the night. He begged us to take care of you. He said you were in danger, that the Alpha of the Blue Moon PackAaronwanted to harm you. He said you had powers that Aaron wanted to use for his own gain.”

I stared at her, my mind reeling. Why didn’t you tell me before?I asked, my voice shaking. Why did you keep this from me?”

We wanted to protect you,” my father said, his tone calm but heavy with emotion. The man who brought you to us said we needed to see a seer to keep you safe. So we did. The seer was the old woman you met. She told us that the only way to protect you from Aaron was to lock your powers. So we did what she told us. We thought we were keeping you safe.”

My mother wiped a tear from her cheek. We didn’t expect you to run away after Killian rejected you. We didn’t know you would end up in Aaron’s hands. If we had knownwe would have done everything to stop it. I am so sorry, Mira. I never wanted you to get hurt.”

Her words stirred a whirlwind of emotions in me. Anger, confusion, sadness. But most of all, a deep sense of betrayal. So all this time,I said, my voice cold, you have been lying to me. Pretending to be my real parents. Letting me think I belonged here.”

We didn’t mean to hurt you,” my mother said desperately. You do belong here, Mira. You’re our daughter, no matter what. We love you.”

I shook my head, unable to process everything. The old woman said she could tell me more about my powers,” I said finally. She said she could help me understand the truth. I need to go see her.”

We’ll go with you,my mother said quickly. We’ll show you where her house is. She can tell you everything you need to know.”

I looked at her, searching her face for any sign of deceit. But all I saw was genuine regret and concern. I nodded slowly. Fine,” I said. But I need answers. All of them.”

My parents exchanged a worried glance but didn’t argue. My mother stood up and placed a hand on my arm. We’ll leave after breakfast, she said softly. You deserve to know the truth.”

I nodded, my heart heavy with a mixture of dread and hope. For the first time in a long time, I felt like I was

finally getting closer to the answers I’d been searching for. But I couldn’t shake the feeling that whatever I learned at the old woman’s cottage would change everything
