Chapter 28

Killian’s POV

When my father and Mira’s parents arrived at the hospital, relief was written all over their faces. They walked over to me, her mother’s eyes glassy with worry but full of gratitude. Thank you, Killian,” she whispered, squeezing my hand. Thank you for bringing her back to us.”

I nodded, a tightness in my throat making it hard to speak. I would do anything for her,I managed to say, my

voice rough with exhaustion and emotion. Mira’s father also thanked me, his hand heavy on my shoulder,

silent bond forming between us in that moment

But not everyone was happy. I caught a glimpse of Sophia, her expression cold, her eyes narrowing as she looked at Mira’s room through the glass. There was jealousy there, and something darkerresentment. She didn’t try to hide it, and it made my stomach twist with disgust. I knew Sophia had never liked Mira, but seeing her resentment so openly while Mira lay fighting for her life felt like a slap to the face

Sophia finally turned her attention to me, walking over with a forced smile. Killian, I have to ask,” she said, her tone laced with curiosity that felt more like an accusation. Why did you go looking for Mira? Where exactly did you find her?”

Her words grated on me, her false concern making my anger bubble just beneath the surface. That doesn’t concern you, Sophia,I replied sharply, my voice cold

She raised her eyebrows, feigning surprise. Of course it concerns me. I am your fiancée, Killian. We are going to be married soon. You don’t have to worry so much about Mira.”

I clenched my jaw, fighting to keep my temper in check. But her words pushed me over the edge. I know you are only marrying me for money, Sophia,” I said, my tone icecold. Her eyes widened, and for once, she seemed truly taken aback

What are you talking about?she asked, trying to sound innocent as she reached out, placing a hand on my

arm

I pulled away, my voice full of disdain. Stop acting, Sophia. I already know everything.” I pushed her hand off me, refusing to be drawn into her web of lies any longer. Don’t bother me anymore.”

Sophia opened her mouth to say something, but I turned away, the sight of her sickening me. She had tried to play me, and now that I could see through her, I wanted nothing to do with her

The next morning, the doctor gave us the news we had all been hoping for. Mira is out of danger,he said, smiling gently. Relief washed over me like a wave. I felt my shoulders finally relax, the weight of worry that had been crushing me slowly lifting

She is still weak, the doctor continued, and we’ll need to keep her here for observation, but she is stable and should recover well.”

Can I see her?I asked, my voice barely a whisper, but the doctor nodded with a kind smile

Yes, but only for a short while. She needs to rest.”

I didn’t waste a second. I walked into her room, my heart racing as I saw her lying there, so small and fragile

in the hospital bed. Her face was pale, her eyes closed, but as I took her hand, her eyelids fluttered open. Her gaze met mine, and I saw the fear lingering there, the shadows of everything she had been through. Mira,I whispered, squeezing her hand gently. I’m so happy that you’re okay.”

She looked at me, her eyes tired but alert, and I could see the worry fading as she recognized me. Killian,” she murmured, her voice soft and shaky. Amam I safe?”

I nodded, my heart aching at the fear in her voice. Yes, you’re safe,” I promised, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. The doctor said you are going to be okay. They just want to keep you here one more day to make sure.”

She took a deep breath, her body finally relaxing, and I could feel the tension melt away. For a moment, we just stayed like that, our hands clasped together, her gaze never leaving mine

Soon, her parents came into the room, her mother immediately rushing to her side, taking her hand. Oh, Mira

she whispered, her voice breaking. I was so worried about you. I am so glad you’re back.”

Mira’s father placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. Yes, sweetheart. We missed you so much.I could see

the relief in their eyes, and it filled me with a warmth that I hadn’t felt in days

When it was time to let her rest, we all stepped out of the room. As I glanced through the glass window, I saw

Sophia lingering in the hallway, her gaze fixed on Mira. There was a coldness in her expression that sent a chill down my spine. She lookedalmost jealous. Angry. The thought of her resentment turned my stomach

and I realized then that I couldn’t leave Mira alone, not with Sophia watching her like that

Pete and Hayden seemed to notice too. They pulled me aside, concern in their eyes. Killian, you should get some rest,” Pete said, his voice low. But we can take turns watching over her. Mira needs someone she can

trust.”

I nodded, grateful for my friendssupport. Thanks. I’ll head home, but I won’t be long.We agreed to take turns, knowing that Mira’s safety was a priority

–

Later, after grabbing a quick meal and a muchneeded shower, I was rushing back to the hospital when I ran into Sophia in the hallway. She looked at me, her eyes narrowing slightly as if she was trying to gauge my

intentions

Where are you going in such a hurry, Killian?she asked, crossing her arms, her voice dripping with

annoyance

I’m going to the hospital,I replied curtly. I was not in the mood for her games

Her eyes narrowed further. Since when do you care so much about Mira?she asked. “I thought you had rejected her.”

Her words hit me hard, but they only fueled the fire of anger I felt toward her. That was a mistake,” I said, my voice laced with bitterness. “One I regret more than you could ever understand.I met her gaze, my expression hard. I wish I had never rejected her for someone like you.”

Sophia’s face twisted in shock, her voice shrill as she replied, You’re saying horrible things to me because of

her?”

Yes,” I shot back. And it’s over between us, Sophia. There’s nothing left for us.”

She stared at me, stunned, as if she couldn’t believe the words coming from my mouth. But I didn’t wait for her to respond. I turned and walked away, my mind focused on only one thing: getting back to Mira

When I arrived at the hospital, Pete and Hayden were waiting, both of them looking tired. Mira is doing better,” Pete said, patting my shoulder. She is resting now, but she is still a little shaken.”

I nodded. I knew that they had been there watching over her. Thank you, both of you,I said sincerely. I don’t know what I would do without you.”

They smiled, and Hayden said, We’re a team, Killian. And we know how much Mira means to you.”

I spent the rest of the night outside her room, sitting on the bench, just waiting, watching over her, making sure she was safe. And when morning came, I finally felt a small glimmer of hope. Mira was going to be okay, and I knew that no matter what, I would be there for her. I would protect her from anything that tried to harm hereven if it was someone close to me. For her, I was willing to fight anyone, even the darkest shadows within my own pack

  • to me For

Because Mira was worth it. She was worth everything
