Chapter 26
Killian’s POV

The tension in the air was thick as I watched Mira trembling in my arms, frozen with fear. She wouldn’t move, wouldn’t even look at me. Her silence tore at me, a wound that grew deeper each second. I wanted to reach her, to tell her everything would be okay, but it was like she was trapped somewhere I couldn’t follow.
When it was clear she couldn’t stand on her own, I bent down and lifted her into my arms. She felt so small, so fragile. I cradled her close, hoping my warmth would be enough to calm her. “It’s okay, Mira,” I whispered, my voice low and gentle. “You’re safe now. I’ll take you back home.”
I glanced at Hayden and Pete, giving them a nod. “Let’s go. Now.” There was no time to waste.
We hurried through the main gate, where a guard stepped forward, his eyes narrowing at the sight of us.” What’s going on here?” he asked, suspicion clear in his voice.
“My friend fell down and got hurt,” I explained quickly. “We’re taking her back home to get help.”
The guard studied us for a long moment, his gaze sharp and searching. But eventually, he nodded and waved us through. I didn’t look back as we moved past him, my only focus on Mira.
Once we reached the car, I placed her gently in the back seat, securing her so she would be as comfortable as possible. Pete slipped into the front passenger seat, while Hayden took the wheel. I settled beside Mira, pulling her close again. She was still shaking, still so silent, and it broke my heart to see her like this.
“Mira…” I whispered, stroking her hair gently. “Please talk to me. What happened to you?”
For a while, she said nothing, and I wondered if she would ever be able to speak. But finally, after what felt like an eternity, she whispered, her voice raw and trembling. “The Alpha of the Blue Moon pack… he saved me from rogues when I ran into the forest.”
I listened, every word making my chest tighten. “Aaron?” I asked, surprised. I had just met him, and he had seemed polite, even welcoming.
She nodded slowly. “Yes… Aaron. He was kind to me. He let me stay with the Blue Moon pack, gave me a place to feel safe… or at least, that’s what I thought.”
I frowned, sensing there was more to this story. “What do you mean?”
Mira’s voice shook as she continued, her words barely a whisper. “Tonight… I found out he… he wasn’t just being kind. He planned to sacrifice me.”
Shock and anger surged through me. Aaron–sacrifice her? My fists clenched, and I struggled to keep my voice calm, for her sake. “Mira, I’m so sorry. I can’t believe he would do something like that.”
She just shook her head, her expression dazed and lost. “I trusted him, Killian. I thought he was helping me… but he betrayed me.” Her voice broke, and she buried her face in her hands, trembling even harder.
“It’s okay,” I murmured, holding her tightly. “He can’t hurt you now. You’re coming back home, and I won’t let anyone lay a finger on you.”
But even as I tried to comfort her, I could feel the fear still gripping her. Her whole body was tense, as if she couldn’t believe she was finally safe. I was just about to speak again when her hand flew to her stomach, and

her face twisted in pain.
“Killian!” she cried out, her voice filled with agony.

“Mira, what’s wrong?” Panic laced my voice
as I watched her double over, clutching her stomach. Sweat was beading on her forehead, and she looked like she was barely holding on.
“I… I don’t know,” she gasped. “It hurts… so much.”
“Hayden!” I shouted, leaning forward. “Driv
faster. We need to get her to the pack hospital. Now!”
Hayden’s grip on the wheel tightened, and he pressed his foot down on the gas. The car sped forward, but every second felt like an eternity as Mira’s moans of pain filled the air. I held her close, whispering soothing words, though nothing seemed to ease her suffering.
“It’s okay, Mira,” I said, my heart pounding. “Hold on. We’ll get you help soon.”
But her pain only seemed to intensify. Her breathing grew ragged, her face pale and clammy. Then, she looked up at me, fear flashing in her eyes, and my heart shattered.
“Killian… what’s happening to me?” she whispered, her voice barely a breath.
“I don’t know,” I replied, panic creeping into my tone. “But we’re almost there. Just hold on, please.”
As we raced toward the hospital, I could feel my wolf, Leo, stirring restlessly in my mind. He could sense her pain too, and it was driving him wild. He howled, urging me to do something, anything, to help her, but all I could do was hold her and pray.
Mira’s breaths came in shallow gasps now, and I watched in horror as her eyelids began to droop. “No, Mira, stay with me,” I begged, shaking her gently. “Don’t close your eyes. Please.”
She tried to nod, but her strength was fading fast. Her body slumped against me, and a terrible stillness settled over her.
“No, no, no,” I whispered, cradling her face, my hands trembling. “Mira, please…”
She didn’t respond, her face pale, her eyes closed. Panic clawed at me as I looked down at her, helplessness and fear swirling in my chest.
“Drive faster!” I shouted to Hayden, my voice cracking. “We can’t lose her. I can’t lose her.”
Leo’s howl echoed in my mind and I felt a surge of desperation. My wolf and I were one in our determination. We couldn’t let her slip away. Not now, not after everything we had gone through to find her.
The car tore through the night, but all I could do was hold Mira close, whispering her name, praying she would open her eyes. Every second that passed felt like it was draining her away, and my heart raced, wild with fear.
We needed to get her to a doctor, and fast.
