Chapter Thirty Six
Chapter Thirty Six
Celeste’s POV
“Good luck, Vanessa.” I said, sidestepping her to leave the hospital. “You’re going to need it.”
She scrambled to block my path again, arms spread wide.
“Is that all you have to say?” She asked, huffing. “I’m pregnant with your ex husband’s child.”
“Am I supposed to congratulate you?” I asked, annoyed.
“Don’t be bitter, Celeste.” She tutted. “We’re old friends and you can’t say one nice thing?”
Poor girl didn’t know what she was in for.
“My deepest sympathies.” I gave her a plastic smile. “Now beat it. I have an actual future to get to.”
Her eyes narrowed. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Where’s Damien right now? At work?” I smirked, reveling in her karma. “You’re going to end up raising that baby on your own while he’s off philandering behind your back.‘
Vanessa floundered, face reddening.
“Congratulations.” My voice dripped with sarcasm. “You wanted my life so badly–it’s all yours.”
“Damien would never do that to me.”
This woman was clueless.
“Oh, please.” I laughed. “I could have him back at the drop of a hat; he’s that ready to toss you aside.”
“Don’t be delusional.” Vanessa seethed. “No man wants to get within a ten–foot radius of you. But me? I know how to keep them satisfied.”
“You definitely have enough… experience.” I chuckled as she fumed. “But with your track record, how can we be sure it’s even Damien’s baby?”
Fear flashed in her eyes, then rage.
“Don’t bother using your lies to tear us apart, you jealous bitch.” She spat, voice rising. “I’m the mother of his child, and the three of us will live together happily.”
I balled my hands into fists, furious.
“The three of you? How could you drive a wedge between Bonnie and I just to forget she exists?”
“She’s unremarkable.” Vanessa sneered, giving me the once–over. “As the saying goes: like mother, like daughter.”
It took every ounce of self control not to slap the bitch.
“Bonnie’s school called. Why haven’t you or Damien fetched her for the last three days?” I asked, livid.
“I don’t have time to run petty errands now that I’m having my own baby.” She shrugged nonchalantly. “And Damien’s so excited that he’s lost interest in Bonnie.”
I couldn’t believe my ears.
They already did a dreadful job looking after Bonnie. They would outright neglect her when their own baby was

added to the mix.
That was the last straw–I was pissed.
“My daughter is some petty errand to you? I can’t believe Damien is allowing you to treat her like this!” I bellowed, my voice echoing in the hallway.
“Celeste, you can’t cause a scene in a hospital.” Grace said, pulling me back. “Calm down or take it outside.”

Vanessa cackled. “She just doesn’t want to face the truth. We nearly had an accident last night, and Damien didn’t even bat an eye at Bonnie the entire way home.”
I took several deep breaths before glaring at her.
“You were in an accident and he didn’t rush you to the hospital?” I tutted with false sympathy. “I think it’s you who doesn’t want to face the truth–Damien doesn’t want you or this baby.”
“Shut your fat trap!” She screamed. “You don’t know what you’re talking about. Damien loves-”
Vanessa cried out, bending over and clutching her stomach
“You shouldn’t cause a pregnant woman undue duress.” A nurse chastised as she hurried to her side.
“You should tell her that. We were on our way out when she picked a fight.”
“That’s not true!” Vanessa shouted. “You and your bitchy friend started–ouch!”
“See what I mean?” I asked.
The nurse nodded in understanding.

“You can’t get into arguments.” She told Vanessa. “It’ll stress you out and hurt the baby.”
The color drained from her face.
“Go to your prenatal checkup.” I glared at her. “I’ll deal with you and Damien later.”
We left her with the nurse and finally headed for the exit.
Grace quipped. “I hope the bitch pushes out twins.”
I stifled my laughter.
“I hope they have heads as big as her ego.” I said as we reached the parking lot.
Just then, my phone rang.
It was Ryan.
“I have bad news, Celeste.” He deadpanned.
My heart sank to the pit of my stomach.
“Give it to me straight.”
He sighed. “You’re going to have to work a lot more overtime from today.”
“What? Why?” I asked, puzzled.
“I’ve got the museum–grade musgravite we needed for Celine Mars.” He said.
“You’re kidding.”

“Serious as a heart attack.” I could hear him smile through the phone.
“Oh my god Ryan, I could kiss you.”
The words were out of my mouth before I could think. The line went silent for a fraction of a second, then-
“I might just hold you to that, Celeste.”
I cut the call and planted my face in my hands.
“You could kiss who?” Grace asked, sidling up to me.
My cheeks flamed, but I pushed back the embarrassment.
This was excellent news.
“You’d want to kiss him too.” I told her.
Her eyebrows furrowed. “Why?”
“He actually did it, Grace. Ryan got us the musgravite for Celine Mars.”
