Chapter 13
Emma had actually accepted Ryan during their time together, and more importantly, her memory loss felt like heaven–sent opportunity to let go of things that weren’t meant for her and start a new life.
So when Ryan proposed, she accepted the flowers and answered:
“Yes.”
Ryan couldn’t believe Emma had agreed. He froze momentarily until Emma spoke up: “Aren’t you going to put the bracelet on me?”
Ryan fumbled with the box, carefully taking out the bracelet and placing it on Emma’s wrist. After securing it, he trembled as he kissed the scars on her forearm.
“I, Ryan Morgan, swear to love Emma Pierce forever.”
When Emma returned home, her head was still in a daze. Looking at the bracelet on her wrist, she could still feel the impression of that trembling kiss.
Although Talon had helped Sophia cover up the plagiarism, his attitude toward her grew increasingly cold after they returned.
Sophia fumed, certain that Talon still couldn’t forget Emma.
Even though Emma had left their lives like a stray dog, her influence lingered like a ghost.
With this in mind, Sophia messaged Talon: “Talon, I think I’m sick. Can you come check on
me?”
Despite everything, she was still his long–time crush. Upon receiving Sophia’s message, Talon went to her place.
When he arrived, Sophia was lying on the couch in a spaghetti–strap nightgown, looking perfectly healthy–not ill at all..
Realizing what was happening, Talon grew displeased and was about to leave when Sophia grabbed his hand.
Chapter 13
“I’m sorry, Talon. You’ve been so cold lately that I got scared, so I lied about being sick.”
Hearing Sophia’s explanation, Talon’s displeasure diminished.
Sophia pressed her advantage: “Have dinner with me tonight, please?”
Talon didn’t refuse this time, sitting down at the dining table.
Sophia poured two glasses of red wine from a decanter, offering one to Talon.
Talon took it but after just a few sips, he felt something wasn’t right with his body.
He felt unusually hot and loosened his tie.
Seeing Talon’s reaction, Sophia directly straddled his lap, reaching to unbutton his shirt.
Watching Sophia’s movements, Talon realized this must have been her plan all along.
Fighting through the discomfort, Talon pushed Sophia off his lap and onto the floor.
Sophia hadn’t expected Talon to push her away so directly and stared in disbelief.
Talon staggered toward the exit, but Sophia hugged him from behind.
“Talon, don’t go…” she pleaded.
Talon angrily pinned Sophia against the wall:
you did outrageous
“All these years I thought you were sweet and sensible. Even when things, I figured it was because you cared about me. But now you’re drugging me? I never thought you were this kind of person.”
After being repeatedly rejected by Talon, who had even pushed her, Sophia could no longer maintain her facade.
“Isn’t it because you’re still thinking about Emma?”
What does Emma have to do with us?!”
Sophia suddenly laughed maniacally:
“Talon, you claimed Emma was clingy and that you despised her, but it seems you quite enjoyed her pursuit and actually cared about her!”
Looking at the distorted expression on Sophia’s face, Talon commanded harshly: “You need to calm down.”
Pushing Sophia away, Talon left directly.
Back home, after solving his physical discomfort, Talon lay in bed thinking about what Sophia had said.
“You quite enjoyed her pursuit and actually cared about her.”
Talon murmured this sentence several times, taking out the photo fragments he’d picked up at the amusement park.
Tracing those tiny fragments, Talon’s mind filled with memories of Emma’s 7 years of pursuing him, following him everywhere.
Only now did Talon have to admit Sophia was right–he had unconsciously grown accustomed to Emma surrounding him.
The next day, Talon sought out Zoe,
“What about that room surveillance footage you wanted me to see?”
Zoe was caught off guard by Talon’s sudden question: “What footage?”
“The video from when Sophia and Emma were in the room and the fire started.”
Zoe looked at Talon mockingly:
“Didn’t you say you believed Sophia? You promised to watch it that night, but one call from
Sophia changed your mind. Why are you asking for the footage now? Having regrets? Want
to win Emma back?”
Talon couldn’t defend himself against Zoe’s mockery.
Seeing his silence, Zoe continued, “You’re too late. Emma texted me a few days ago saying she has a boyfriend now. His name seems to be Ryan.”
