Chapter 6
Sophia’s face was tight, her gaze burning as she looked at Emma, her tone far from friendly.
“Didn’t you say you’d given up? Why do you keep appearing in front of Talon? Let me tell you, he only has eyes for me. No matter how many attention–seeking things you do, he won’t like you. You’ll never win against me!”
Emma hadn’t expected her to confront her like this and was stunned for a few seconds before recovering to explain.
“I came here to give Zoe her birthday gift, and I’ll be leaving shortly.”
Hearing this, the wariness in Sophia’s eyes didn’t decrease but rather increased, adding a layer of disgust.
“All these years, you’ve shamelessly clung to Talon, with no self–respect or dignity, haven’t you? Just relying on Zoe’s whining and acting cute? Talon has such a sister who can’t tell right from wrong and always sides with outsiders–what bad luck.”
Sophia could say whatever nasty things about Emma, and she wouldn’t take it to heart.
But when she started insulting Zoe, Emma’s gaze instantly cooled.
“Does Talon know you talk about his flesh and blood sister like this behind his back?”
Faced with her challenge, Sophia laughed coldly. “Talon will love me unconditionally, so what if I do? Besides, you and Zoe are just a pair of shameless, disgraceful women, aren’t you? Am I not stating facts? Are you angry because I hit a nerve?”
“Seven years ago, you left without a word to study abroad, nearly killing Talon. Zoe, as his sister, was heartbroken for her brother but never said a harsh word about you. Now you want to come back to marry Talon, yet behind his back, you insult Zoe like this. Who do you think is the truly disgusting, despicable person here?”
Sophia hadn’t expected her to talk hack so fiercely and immediately slapped her in anger.
Emma didn’t back down, lifting her hand to slap Sophia right back.

Sophia covered her stinging cheek, tears of rage forming, and lunged at Emma, grappling
with her.
Emma grabbed Sophia’s hair, struggling desperately to defend herself.
In their scuffle, they knocked over the aromatherapy lamp on the table.
The flame caught the bedsheets, then ignited the carpet, quickly erupting into a fire.
Dense smoke rose, and by the time the two noticed, the entire room was engulfed in flames.
Emma struggled to reach the door, but Sophia pushed her straight into the fire.
The scorching flames licked and burned her skin, making her whole body tremble
uncontrollably.
As she tried to extinguish the fin
on herself, she saw the bedroom door violently burst open.
Talon rushed in, only half a meter away from her, but his gaze merely swept over her
briefly.
Then his eyes fell on Sophia, and he sprinted toward her, forcefully embracing her in his
arms.
Smoke dispersed and choked Emma’s nostrils, making her breathing increasingly faint.
She raised her burned, reddened hands and grabbed Talon’s leg.
But he merely glanced down, forcefully pulled away his leg, and strode out.
Watching his silhouette disappear into the thick smoke, she completely lost consciousness…
Emma never thought she’d still be alive.
When she opened her eyes again, she saw Zoe with reddened eyes from crying.

“Just a minor injury, I’m fine. Zoe, don’t feel guilty or worried.”
Despite the waves of burning pain from her hands, Emma still bit her lip and used them to
embrace Zoe.
“Actually, there’s something I wanted to tell you yesterday. It might be a little late now, but promise you won’t be upset with me. I’ve decided to fly back to Los Angeles this afternoon. There’s an arranged marriage that my family’s been pushing, and I’ve agreed to it. I’ve already bought my ticket. Would you see me off one last time?”
Zoe hadn’t expected Emma to suddenly leave, and the tears she’d just managed to stop began flowing again.
“WHAT?! You’re suddenly leaving? And getting married? Does this mean you’re never coming back? What will I do when I miss you? Waaaah…”
Emma sighed, spending a long time comforting her until Zoe’s emotions finally settled down.
The two shared many intimate conversations before Zoe reluctantly went to process Emma’s discharge papers.
Emma had just changed clothes, enduring the pain, when Talon pushed open the hospital room door, his face dark with anger.
“You attacked Sophia, then set a fire trying to kill her, didn’t you?”
Seeing him again, Emma felt nothing inside, her tone equally cold.
“She told you that, and you just believed it? Without looking at any evidence?”
“Yes, whatever Sophia says, I’ll believe unconditionally, no evidence needed!”
