Chapter 5
Being publicly criticized like this, even though Emma no longer had any feelings for Talon, her face
still paled from the humiliation.
After making his announcement, Talon declared the meeting over and quickly left with Sophia.
The HR manager, who had been waiting outside, immediately approached him with Emma’s resignation letter.
“Mr. Sullivan, here’s a resignation notice that needs your review and signature…”
Talon’s eyes were cold, and without even looking, he signed it directly.
After watching him leave with Sophia, the design department colleagues all gathered around Emma, constantly offering comfort.
But Emma remained calm.

She smiled, clutching the signed agreement tightly in her hand.
“Actually, whether I become the director or not isn’t important, because I’ve already decided to resign. Mr. Sullivan just signed and approved my resignation request. Today is my last day with the company. Going forward, we’ll be far apart, but take care, everyone. I hope we meet again someday.”
The team erupted in shock and protests, some even vowing to appeal to Talon on her behalf.
But Emma just smiled and shook her head, thanking each of them before returning to her office to pack her things.
That evening, she treated everyone to a farewell dinner. Laughter and melancholy intertwined as glasses clinked–one last toast to the years they’d shared.
Back home, she contacted a real estate agent and listed her apartment at the lowest price, selling it he very next day.
She completed the transfer paperwork and agreed with the buyer to move out in two days.
After finishing all of this, she received a call from Zoe.

Chapter 5
“Emma, tomorrow’s my birthday. You haven’t forgotten, have you? I’ve been waiting for your gift!”
“How could I forget your birthday? I’ve already prepared your gift and will definitely deliver it to you tomorrow.”
Not only had Emma prepared a gift, but she also planned to tell Zoe about her departure.
In previous years, to spend more time with Talon, she would always arrive early at the birthday
venue.
But this time, she waited until halfway through the party before grabbing a ride over.
As usual, the birthday celebration was held at the Sullivan family mansion.
Emma had been to the Sullivan house countless times and knew every inch of it by heart, so she slipped in through the back door.
In the main hall, they were just about to blow out the candles. Zoe was surrounded by a group of
people, her face full of happiness.
Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan stood on her left, smiling, while Talon and Sophia stood on her right, looking like one big happy family.
Emma watched from a distance, overhearing the Sullivan family housekeepers whispering.
‘Mr. Sullivan and Miss Chen broke up so many years ago, I thought they’d never get back together.
Who would’ve thought they’d come full circle? It’s so romantic!”
“Right? Miss Sullivan’s friend chased him for so many years without moving his heart. Clearly, his love for Miss Chen is bone–deep.”
“All these years, Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan have been pressuring him to marry, but he always made excuses. Now that he’s personally brought her home, it seems he’s making a statement. Happy days might be just around the corner!”
Emma had already forgotten everything about Talon and was determined to let him go completely.
From now on, whoever he liked or wanted to marry had nothing to do with her.
So hearing these comments left her feeling nothing.
She silently accompanied them as they finished singing the birthday song, and when she looked up

again, she met Talon’s gaze.
Seeing her, he frowned, saying something to Zoe, who looked her way and squeezed out of the
crowd.
Emma gently hugged her, handing over the birthday gift, and wished her a happy birthday with a
smile.
Zoe had been waiting for her all evening and was about to pull her over for cake, but Emma shook
her head.
“There are too many people, it’s a bit noisy. I won’t go over. You go take care of things, and I’ll wait in your room. I have something to tell you later.”
Zoe also feared Emma would be upset seeing Talon, so she agreed.
Avoiding the crowd, Emma made her way smoothly to Zoe’s room on the third floor.
She sat on the sofa for half an hour, feeling drowsy, and closed her eyes for a brief rest.
In her hazy state, she heard the door open and thought Zoe had returned.
But when she opened her eyes, she saw Sophia instead.
