Chapter 3
The world tilted. Water rushed up to meet her as she hit the pool with a splash.
“Emma, Out of respect for Zoe, I’ve ignored your obsession with me. But Sophia is my line. Cross it again, and you’ll regret it.”
After saying this, he called for security guards to stand watch, preventing anyone from coming to
her rescue.
Cold water flooded into Emma’s nose and mouth, making her terribly uncomfortable.
She struggled alone in the water as the wound on her leg split open, blood seeping out to color the pool red.
The strength in her body gradually depleted as she shivered uncontrollably from the pain, slowly sinking into the deep water.
In her fading consciousness, the last image she saw was of Talon carrying Sophia away.
Time blurred. When Emma finally opened her eyes, Zoe’s worried gaze was the first thing she saw.
“I was only gone for a few hours, and you fell into a pool? The doctor said if you’d been rescued a
minute later, you might not have woken up. Do you know how terrified I was?”
Recalling what happened before she lost consciousness, Emma fell silent.
She wanted to tell Zoe everything–but Talon was her brother. The words died in her throat.
“I’m fine,” she murmured instead, voice thin with exhaustion. “Don’t worry,”
Zoe’s eyes immediately reddened, and although she didn’t say anything, she stayed by Emma’s
hospital bed for the next few days.
During this time, she intentionally brought up Talon several times, seemingly trying to gauge Emma’s thoughts.
“Emma, let’s be real. If anyone else had confessed to my brother as many times as you did, he would’ve cut them off completely. But he tolerated you for years. Doesn’t that mean something? Maybe even he doesn’t realize it yet–are you really giving up on him?”
Chapter 3
If Emma had heard this right after waking up, she might have believed it.
But after the pool incident? It was just delusion.
She showed Zoe the photos that colleagues had sent of Talon accompanying Sophia shopping, dining, and watching movies, her tone as calm as still water.
“He ‘tolerated‘ me out of respect for you,” Emma said, voice eerily calm. “If fate made me forget him
once, it’s a sign we were never meant to be. The one he’s been waiting for is back. It’s time I let go.”
Seeing her resolve, Zoe didn’t try to persuade her further, just sighed deeply.
“Ah, I wished more than anyone that my brother would come to his senses and be with you. Then
you’d be my sister–in–law, and we could stay together forever. But since you’ve decided to give up, I’ll
respect it. From now on, I won’t interfere in my brother’s matters with his first love. We’ll always be
best friends.”
Emma nodded firmly, gently pulling her into a hug.
After the two friends shared some private conversation, Zoe went to process the discharge papers
and helped Emma into the car.
“You’ve been struck in the hospital for so long, you must be fed up. Let me throw a party to celebrate
your discharge!”
Thinking this might be their last gathering, Emma didn’t refuse and went with her to the club.
But when they reached the private room and pushed open the door, both of them froze.
Seated at the center of the room were Talon and Sophia.
Zoe’s jaw dropped.“Talon? Why are you here?”
The friends who helped with the invitations pulled them both in while explaining.
“You said the more the merrier! So we invited Talon–and he brought Sophia. Perfect, right?”
Zoe looked ready to murder someone.
Emma squeezed her arm. “It’s fine,” she murmured. “I don’t remember the past anymore. This won’t
hurt me.”

Chapter 3
Reluctantly, Zoe sat down with her.
Though the room was bustling all evening, the atmosphere remained somewhat awkward.
O
Talon took off his jacket to put around Sophia’s shoulders, drinking every toast meant for her, peeling fruit and feeding it her…
Every gesture was so intimate and doting, making no attempt to hide his affection.
Emma watched, chest tight but oddly numb.
Perhaps forgetting those memories was actually a blessing for her?
Zoe, however, thought she must be hurting and quickly gathered a group to play games, hoping to
distract her.
Emma had good luck, winning about ten rounds in a row before finally losing one, and everyone clamored for her penalty.
“Fine,” she said. “I’ll take truth.”
Suddenly, everyone’s attention shifted between her and Talon as someone asked.
“What’s the most unforgettable love of your life?”
Talon’s face darkened. His glare was a blade against her throat-
Don’t you dare.
But Emma just smiled. “The most memorable relationship should be my first love? He was my best friend’s brother. I think I fell for him at first sight, wrote stacks of love letters, printed albums of secretly taken photos. Everyone knew I was head over heels for him, but he didn’t like me…”
The room fell into dead silence.
Quietly observing until now, Sophia seemed to sense something and tugged at Talon’s arm, whose
face had darkened.
“Talon, you and Miss Pierce…”
Talon’s heart jolted, and he tightly held her hand, firmly denying it.
Chapter 3
“I have no relationship with her whatsoever. From beginning to end, it was just her one–sided fantasy and delusion.”
He spoke decisively, leaving no room for doubt.
Then, without lingering, he pulled Sophia up and left under everyone’s watchful eyes.
The gazes of those in the room turned toward Emma, filled with sympathy and pity.
Zoe, who had been silent until now, finally couldn’t hold back and rushed out.
Emma realized what she was about to do and hurried after her, witnessing the siblings arguing in the parking garage.
“Emma is my best friend! How could you humiliate her in front of so many people? She loved you
for so many years–couldn’t you have shown a little kindness out of respect for her sincerity?”
“I tolerated her for seven years, rejecting her ‘gently‘ so many times–for your sake. Isn’t that kind
enough? Her so–called love was nothing but a nuisance to me!”
Zoe was so angry she was nearly losing her mind, speaking with a raspy voice.
“Well, congratulations. She’ll never love you again. Since the time you abandoned her on the road
and she had that accident with the concussion…”
“I drove her home purely as a favor to you! Why couldn’t I leave her halfway? Even if she had an
accident, if time could rewind 100 times, I would still abandon her 100 times for Sophia’s sake. If she’s still holding a grudge about this, you can tell her to stay away from me!”
