As the days passed, Karl continued his pattern–leaving early, returning late. Natalie’s Instagram documented their intimate moments while I quietly made my arrangements.
Two days before our supposed mating ceremony, Natalie appeared at our door uninvited.
“It’s been a while, Luna,” she said, the title dripping with mockery.
I opened the door to see her standing there, her Omega scent mixed with Karl’s Alpha markers. She sauntered in as if she owned our den, examining everything with proprietary interest before turning to me disdainfully.
“When you rejected me from the pack’s program, did you ever imagine this day would come?”
“The day you became nothing but a mistress?” I retorted.
My words struck a nerve. Her expression twisted with rage, her voice rising to a shrill pitch.
“Just wait! Not only will your mate become mine, but your pup will call me mother. Everything you have will be mine!”
She suddenly grabbed my arm, her manicured claws digging into my flesh.
I instinctively moved to push her away when the door behind me opened.
Karl entered, causing me to lose balance and stumble sideways.
But he didn’t seem to notice. His focus went immediately to Natalie’s side.
“Natalie!” he exclaimed, pulling her protectively behind him before turning to glare at me coldly.
“Why are you still tormenting her? She left the pack education program at your insistence, yet you continue to harass her!”
The door slammed shut as he escorted her out, leaving me alone in sudden silence.
His accusations still rang in my ears, but I could only laugh bitterly.
I had been the one who nearly fell, carrying what he believed was his pup, yet he could only see Natalie.
Karl had once shown me the same fierce protection.
During my third year at university, my foster pack tried to force me home for an arranged mating to secure political alliance. They wanted to exchange me for resources to advance my foster brother’s position.
