Chapter 24
_Mira’s POV_
The night of the Selene festival had finally arrived. I wore the dress Aaron had given me–a beautiful white gown that seemed to glow under the light. Standing in front of the mirror, I smiled, feeling more elegant than I had in years. The soft lace, the
shimmer of the beads…it was like something out of a dream.
A light knock on the door interrupted my thoughts. “Mira?” Aaron’s voice called from
the other side. “May I come in?”
“Yes, come in,” I replied, smoothing down the fabric.
He stepped in, his eyes lighting up when he saw me. “You look beautiful, Mira,” he
said, his voice soft. “Like a true Luna.”
“Thank you, Aaron.” My cheeks flushed at his compliment, a warmth spreading
through me.
He glanced at his watch. “The celebrations have already begun. Come downstairs
with me. I want you to enjoy the festival.”
I nodded, following him down the stairs, feeling the weight of excitement in the air. The packhouse and grounds were decorated with lilies, white petals flowing like
rivers. Laughter and music filled the night and I could see the happiness on
everyone’s faces.
As we reached the crowd, Aaron’s phone rang. He glanced at the screen and then at me, looking slightly apologetic. “I need to go welcome some guests. I’ll be back soon.
You go on, have fun.”
I nodded, trying not to feel disappointed. “Alright. I’ll just look around.”
He gave me a reassuring smile before disappearing into the crowd. Turning my attention to the tables set up with food, I was about to walk over when someone
bumped into me, spilling juice all over my dress. I looked down, my beautiful white
dress now stained with red.
“Oh no!” A small child looked up at me, her face crumpling as she saw the mess. “I’m
sorry,” she whispered, her eyes filling with tears.

“It’s okay,” I said gently, crouching down to her level. “It was just an accident. Don’t
worry about it.”
Her mother rushed over, apologizing profusely. I reassured her too, brushing it off as
nothing. “It’s alright, really.”
I made my way back to the packhouse, heading to my room to find another dress.
After rummaging through my things, I found a simple red dress that would do for the
night. It wasn’t as special as the one Aaron had given me, but at least I wouldn’t stand
out with a stain.
As I made my way back downstairs, I passed by the Alpha’s study. That is when I heard voices–muffled, but intense. Something about the tone of the conversation
made me stop. I stepped closer, careful not to make any noise.
I recognized Aaron’s voice, low and serious. “Everything needs to go according to plan,” he was saying. “Tonight is the full moon, and this is the only chance I have.”
I frowned, pressing my ear closer to the door, my heart beginning to race. What plan?
Jason’s voice came next. “Don’t worry, Alpha. We’ll make sure everything is perfect. Mira won’t suspect a thing.”
My stomach dropped. Why were they talking about me?
Then Lucian’s voice chimed in, his tone cold. “I’ll keep an eye on her, Alpha. Just
signal me when you’re ready.”
I clutched the wall, my mind spinning with fear and confusion. Ready for what?
Aaron spoke again, his voice chillingly calm. “The sacrifice will take place at midnight
tonight. Mira’s blood will finally end this curse.”
The words hit me like a punch, leaving me breathless. They were going to sacrifice
- me.
I stumbled back, my hands trembling, my heart pounding so loud I thought they might hear it. I had trusted him, believed him… and now, he was planning to kill me. I had to get away. Without thinking, I turned and ran, pushing through the crowd, desperate to get as far from the packhouse as possible.
I ran into the yard, my vision blurring with tears. I didn’t look back. I couldn’t. The

betrayal was too much. My legs ached, but I pushed on, fear flooding every inch of my body. I didn’t know where I was going, only that I had to escape.
Suddenly, I collided with someone, and I fell to the ground, but before I could hit the
dirt, strong arms caught me.
“Mira!” A voice called, filled with shock and relief. “Mira, it’s me!”
I looked up, blinking through my tears, and saw Killian’s face staring down at me, his expression filled with worry. I shook my head, convinced I was hallucinating. What was he doing here?
“Mira, wait!” he shouted as I pulled away, stumbling to my feet. But I didn’t stop. I couldn’t. Every instinct told me to keep running.
